There’s something so special about this time of year—the crisp autumn air, colourful leaves, cozy moments, and so many opportunities for little adventures! 🧡

At Dizzy’s, we love embracing every season through play, exploration, and learning. From collecting leaves and discovering nature to jumping in puddles and enjoying the changing scenery, fall gives our little friends so much to see, touch, and experience. 🌿🍂

Our hearts are with the Belleville Police Service, the officer injured in yesterday’s shooting, their family and loved ones, and especially our Jewish community.

We are incredibly grateful for the brave men and women who put themselves in harm’s way each day to protect and serve our community. We are keeping the injured officer, their loved ones, fellow officers, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking incident close in our thoughts.

May there be healing, strength, comfort, and peace for all those impacted. 💙👮‍♀️👮‍♂️🙏

🍽️ Meal Prep is key! 🍽️

Leftovers for daycare lunches aren't something we often have at Dizzy’s Daycare, mainly because Markie needs those leftovers for his lunches and dinners when he’s working! 😊

So, how do I still offer the little ones those bigger, hearty dinner-style meals for lunch? I meal prep! 🙌

Tonight, we're having BBQ Meatloaf for dinner, so I’m making up a second meatloaf at the same time. I’ll cook it tomorrow so the little ones can enjoy a fresh, homemade BBQ meatloaf for lunch! 🥰

It takes a little extra planning, but it means the daycare kiddos get delicious, homemade meals without me having to rely on leftovers. ❤️

Meal prep tonight = happy little tummies tomorrow! 😋🍴

💛 Biting Has a Purpose

Biting can be one of the most challenging behaviors to navigate in early childhood—especially because our first priority must be keeping everyone safe.

But once everyone is safe, we need to look beyond the bite and ask:

“What is this child trying to communicate?”

Young children may bite because they're experiencing:

😣 Frustration — “I don't know what else to do.”
🖐️ Sensory needs — “My body needs this input.”
💬 Communication challenges — “I don't have the words yet.”
🌀 Overstimulation — “This is too much for me.”

Understanding the reason behind the behavior doesn't mean ignoring or excusing it. Biting still needs a clear, calm safety limit.

But stopping the bite is only the beginning.

Our job is to help children develop a safer skill to use instead—words, gestures, asking for help, taking space, using appropriate sensory supports, or learning ways to manage frustration.

Instead of only asking:

❌ “How do I stop the biting?”

Try asking:

✔️ “What need is this behavior meeting, and what can I teach instead?”

When we understand the need, we can respond with safety, support, and teaching.

When we understand the “why” behind behavior, we stop simply managing children and start teaching them.

Because every behavior is communication—and every child deserves to be understood.

🧤 Mittens, please! 🧤

As the cooler weather approaches, please send mittens rather than gloves for your little ones. ❤️

Trying to get five little fingers into five tiny glove fingers can be quite the adventure—and honestly, pretty stressful! 😂 Mittens are so much easier for little hands to manage and get on independently.

If possible, mittens with zippers are especially helpful. They make it much easier to guide those little thumbs into the right spot and get everyone bundled up quickly before we head outside. ❄️

We spend lots of time outdoors, so having warm, easy-to-use outdoor gear makes a BIG difference! 🥰
