The luffas are HUGE… but big doesn’t mean ready! 🌿🧽

We're getting deep into the Ontario growing season now, and every extra day matters. Instead of completely removing our tarps today, we’re keeping the tunnel protected while venting it for airflow.

The goal now isn't really more size - it's keeping those vines alive long enough for the fruits to finish maturing and eventually become the natural sponges we've been waiting for!

Now we're basically playing a game with Mother Nature… 😂🇨🇦 How many more growing days can we steal?

🥶 1°C OUTSIDE… COFFEE GROWING INSIDE! ☕🌴

Now This is gardening in Canada! 😂🇨🇦

For this morning’s Featured Plant, we’re checking out our Coffee Arabica - the plant behind one of the most popular drinks in the world! ☕🌿

Eventually, a mature coffee plant can flower and produce coffee cherries, which usually contain two seeds - what we call coffee beans! 🤯

Ours hasn’t produced cherries yet, but imagine eventually harvesting coffee from our own tropical jungle in Ontario! 👀😂

🥶🌿 DAY 132 ANOTHER FROST ADVISORY!

The jungle might be warm and cozy tonight…but our outdoor garden has another battle on its hands. 😂

We still have luffas hanging on the vines that need more time to mature, and with another cold night ahead, we're not giving up on them yet! 🧽🌱

Tonight we're covering them up and trying to squeeze every last growing day we can out of the season. 🤞

The luffas are tucked in. The jungle is warm. Now we wait. 🌙🌿

Tomorrow morning we'll see how everything made out. 👀

❤️🌿 Some plants are grown for their flowers… this one doesn’t need them!

Today we're featuring our Red Kiss Begonia, and it's easy to see why we added this one to the jungle. 😍

Those deep red leaves with their incredibly dark edges are the real showstopper!

Give it plenty of bright indirect light, don't keep the soil constantly soaking wet, and you can have some incredible foliage colour. 🌱

🌙🌴 DAY 131 A CHILL NIGHT IN THE JUNGLE

The day is done, everything's quiet, and it's time for another walk through the jungle. 💚

Tonight we're checking in on the tropicals, taking another look at that pineapple 🍍 and heading outside to see how our vertically grown pumpkin is doing. 🎃👀

These nighttime check-ins started as a simple way to show you what's happening each day…and 131 days later, we're still going! 😂🌿

🦂🌿 TODAY'S FEATURED PLANT - PHILODENDRON SCORPION!

This has to be one of the most unusual-looking plants growing in our tropical jungle. 👀

Those long, wild leaves are exactly what make this Philodendron such a standout and it's only getting more interesting as it grows!

Ours gets plenty of warmth, humidity and bright indirect light here in the greenhouse. 🌴☀️

Now the important question…

Is this plant COOL 😍 or just plain WEIRD?! 😂🦂

🌙🌴 DAY 130!
130 nights of walking into this tropical jungle… and somehow I still look forward to it every single night. 😂💚

From the pineapple we started from a grocery-store crown 🍍 to the citrus, Crotons and everything else growing in here, this place has come a long way. 🌱

Thanks to everyone who keeps coming along for these nightly jungle check-ins. 💚

🎃 Our vertical pumpkin journey is getting VERY close to the big finale!

We’ve grown this pumpkin completely off the ground on a trellis and documented the entire experiment along the way.

There’s also been another reason for all that documentation: we’ve been exploring whether this could potentially qualify as a Guinness World Records attempt for a vertically grown pumpkin. 🏆🎃

Nothing has been accepted or confirmed, so we're not claiming a record. We're simply documenting everything properly and seeing where the journey takes us.

Either way, watching this pumpkin make it through an entire season suspended above the ground has been an incredible experiment!

And now we're almost at the part everyone has been waiting for…

🍍 FROM GROCERY STORE PINEAPPLE TO THIS!

It was only 6°C outside here in Ontario this morning 🇨🇦🥶… meanwhile, inside the greenhouse, our pineapple is loving life! 😂🌴

This entire plant started from the crown of a grocery-store pineapple. We rooted it in water for about three months, planted it into soil, and have been watching it grow ever since. 🌱

One of my favourite things about this greenhouse is being able to experiment with plants you'd NEVER expect to see growing here in Ontario.

Now comes the question we've all been waiting for…
When are we finally getting a pineapple?! 😂🍍👀

🌙🌴 Day 129!

Another quiet night checking on the jungle. 💚 We started the day featuring our Croton, and now we’re finishing it right back where we always do - surrounded by the plants. 🌈🌿

I still look forward to these nighttime walks every single day.
