The more I look, the worse it gets! Somebody was brave enough to “shoot their shot” and install this roof…hopefully they did this for free and provided the material for free as well because it’s all wrong.
There are blue collar workers that take great pride in what they do, they get trained, they practice (or put in the reps), they provide a quality service that helps us live a better life without worry of what could go wrong.
And then there are “fly by nights”, “Chuck in a trucks”, “hacks”, the list goes on and on.
I don’t know how anyone could do this kind of thing”work” and sleep at night 🤷
No matter what it is you do, if the end result looks like this roof, you’re doing it wrong! Spend some time with a mentor, get trained and learn how to do your craft right providing a high quality service and/or product!
Happy Father’s Day to all you amazing Dad’s

As a business owner how are you investing in your staff?
A CFO once said to the CEO “What if we invest in training them and they leave, what then?”
The CEO responded “What if we don’t and they stay?”
A true leader will always see the value of investing in their people to build them up and create a stronger team. They see the bigger picture!
Andrew Selbie of Stybek Roofing Ltd. is one of those visionary leaders that is building an amazing team! That’s why when Andrew reached out to me and asked if I would be willing to share my 25+ years of knowledge by teaching some of his staff, I jumped at the opportunity.
What an amazing group of guys he has. They are eager to learn, have a growth mindset, and are hungry for knowledge. They care deeply about the company and the clients they serve as representatives of Stybek Roofing Ltd.
We spent two days going over some of the fundamentals of copper and metal roofing, concave and convex roofs, standing seams, double lock standing seams, and copper tiles. We followed that up with some soldering basics, how to clean and prep old “dirty” copper, prepping new bare and lead coated copper. These guys didn’t want to stop learning, they just wanted to keep going.
I am grateful for the opportunity that Andrew presented me. It has been two days of not just sharing knowledge but building others up and developing new friendships as well.
Andrew, you have a great group of guys. I look forward to seeing all the growth you lead them and Stybek through!

I’ve met these wanna be clients, if they don’t want to pay for a high end job, they don’t get the high end job. I’ve also met clients that hired trades that didn’t have the skill set to do the high end work, but they were the lowest bidder so they got the job. If you don’t have the budget for high end, save your money until you do, if you’re too cheap to pay for the high end, hang your own horse. If you have a client looking for a bargain price, don’t devalue yourself or your work, have them meet you at your level.

In the summer of 2021 we were given yet another great opportunity from one of our amazing clients! To replace the roof on a old homestead garage that was originally built in 1853. Since being built it was moved about 500’ and had an addition added onto it. Seeing the old school craftsmanship was amazing! We have come along way in how we build things. During our last day of roof removal and replacement we discovered that the massive 2” X 12” (actual dimensions, not milled down) was hanging precariously and at risk of falling off. The experience of the team came in handy to resolve this issue, the board was initially toenailed using square and smooth nails, we added 6” long #12 HD fasteners every 12” to pull it up into place and secure it. To us, it was a simple fix, the project manager we were working with does not have much experience in the industry, he had no idea or input on how to fix it and thought we could trust the new metal pans to hold it in place. That would never suffice for us, we always over deliver and do things the right way, if we don’t know, we find someone that does so we can learn and deliver the highest quality product every time.

Just wrapped up this project that turned out great! Another very satisfied customer. Approximately 8,000 square feet of snap cap metal roofing and HF siding, too bad they didn’t want to replace the louvre and flats at the same time.

The money shot! When you have a great team and lead by example, the end result is quality workmanship!
