Have you met Karah? She's a 3rd-year Worship Arts student and volleyball Bearcat!
_____
What motivates you?
Karah: Well I guess that depends on what I'm being motivated for! Being the procrastinator that I am, due dates definitely motivate me! I can be a bit of a people pleaser so I can feel motivated to do things for others by wanting to make them happy. But I think watching others love what they're passionate about or listening to an inspiring song or trying something new motivates me to do what I love!
_____
What do you enjoy the most about Columbia?
Karah: Oh the community! Classic but so true! I've met my best friends here and friends that will last a lifetime - including meeting the love of my life! Another reason why I love CBC: the profs are unbelievable. I've never felt like "just another student". The way the teachers take time and really care for their students is something that is so unique and I have been so blessed by.
_____
What would you do if you won the lottery?
Karah: I feel like the "normal" answer to this question is travel. But honestly I think I would split it up. Give some to a non-profit. Give some to my sponsor child. Put some towards a down payment on a house. I don't know! The possibilities are endless! All I know is that if I won a serious amount of money I couldn't keep it just for myself.

Meet Adonis, a 1st year in Applied Leadership!
_____
What inspires you?
Adonis: I'm inspired by people. My biggest inspiration at the moment is everyone around me; their stories, testimonies, their ideas and dreams, and seeing how God made us all different. This makes me love people wherever they are at in life and makes me appreciate what God has done and is doing in my life.
_____
What do you enjoy the most about Columbia?
Adonis: Two things: one, I enjoy being in a different culture and the challenges that it brings. I have an attitude to learn from the challenges and readjust my life to a Godly culture and the culture I desire for my life. Second, I love the CBC community. It is tangible and I feel welcomed and included and I don’t feel like an outsider.
_____
What would you do if you had a time machine?
Adonis: Well, there are a few things in history I would go and fix. I would also want to skip five years ahead because I'm not too patient with life. I have some dreams I want to accomplish and time couldn't move any slower.

Meet Luke, a 3rd year in Biblical Studies!
_____
What would the name of your debut album be?
Luke: “The Bukes: The Life and Times of a Boy Blunder.” The Bukes would be my rap name because it is my nickname. I really like Robin the Boy Wonder, and I feel like a clumsy kid who cant focus and goofs around all day. I might be a Boy Blunder, but God uses me anyway, so I think it would be a cool celebration of God working in my faults.
_____
What advice would you give new students at Columbia?
Luke: Just go for it! In my first month or two at CBC I was terrified to be myself and get involved. I was not the full Luke Bushman outside of a few friends. In contrast, this year I have loved being crazy as can be and being fully involved. The people here will love who you are so be yourself, and participate in everything!
_____
When do you feel closest to God?
Luke: I personally feel closest to God when I am expressing myself through any creative outlets, and when I am building godly relationships through meaningful conversations with friends.

Meet Erv, Columbia's Registrar!
_____
What is your role at Columbia?
Erv: “I am the Registrar and Assistant Academic Dean which means that I make sure that there are courses and programs available for students to take.”
_____
What is your most embarrassing moment?
Erv: “I once learned that if you goof around and try to imitate the singing style of Bob Dylan, you should not record it and you definitely should not let this recording fall into the wrong hands.”
_____
What are you most looking forward to this coming semester?
Erv: “Talking about great books with students.”

Meet John Sherk, our new men's resident director!
_____
What drew you to your new role at Columbia?
John: "Coming to Columbia is like coming home. There is a lot of joy in being brought back here. I look forward to getting to know individuals and walk with them in their journey through life. I am excited to see what God has in store for them.”
_____
What is the most extreme adventure you've ever done?
John: “I got to summit Pico de Orizaba while in Mexico, which is the third highest peak in North America at 5,700 meters. It was one of my first experiences in high mountaineering. It was really fantastic and extremely difficult and one of my favourite expeditions."

Meet Micah Parkerson, our Commuter Director!
_____
Where did you grow up?
I come from the small town of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky. When you hear I’m from Kentucky, you’re probably thinking about KFC, wondering if I’ve met the colonel. Unfortunately no, I didn’t get to know him. We weren’t particularly close.
_____
When do you feel closest to God?
For someone who really can’t sing, I really feel connected with singing. I really am an awful singer but through worship is where I really experience a connection with God.
_____
If your life was made into a movie, what would it be called and who would play you?
If my life was made into a movie it would be called “Kentucky Thunder.” I would hope that Will Ferrell would play me. I really don’t know why I just think it should be Will Ferrel.

Meet Bryan!

What is your role at Columbia?
Bryan: “Following Jesus as best I can, I serve as president of Columbia.”

How do you define love?
Bryan: “Love is always trying to do what’s best for others. Love is sticking with someone even when it hurts.”

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
Bryan: “Getting on a flight to Calgary and sitting beside a total stranger, and then two days later getting on a flight back home and ending up seated right next to the same person. We ended up having a great visit on both flights!”

Meet Ryan!

What program are you in at Columbia?
Ryan: I am a fourth year in the Caregiving and Counselling program

What has God been revealing/ teaching you recently?
Ryan: God has been teaching me that theology is meaningless unless it reflects what you believe in your heart and the pursuit of correct doctrine does not compare to the joy of the Lord that is available through faith in Jesus.

What inspires you?
Ryan: I am most profoundly impacted by John 16:33 “in this world you will have trouble but take heart I have overcome the world.” I believe hope lies not in having a painless life but in having strength to withstand the pain through the future hope we have in Jesus.

Would you rather fight 1 horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses and why?
Ryan: I would choose to fight a horse sized duck, if I killed it I would have meat for years and years and never go hungry. It’s be worth the battle, which I’m sure I’d have a 50/50 chance of winning anyway.
