⭐⭐Belarusian School Students Guided by BSU Lecturer Win 4 Medals at the 38th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2026)

In total, the team brought home one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. Aliaksandr Buslauski, a senior lecturer at the Department of Discrete Mathematics and Algorithmics of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at BSU, served as one of the team leaders for the Belarusian national team.

📌 This large-scale intellectual competition took place from August 9 to August 16 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. In total, more than 370 contestants from 97 countries are participating in the Olympiad this year.

💡 BSU Scientists Patent Production of the First Domestic Activated Carbon

BSU researchers have secured exclusive rights to a fundamentally new, eco-friendly technology. They are producing highly efficient activated carbon from local wood waste and hydrolysis lignin.

The new mesoporous activated carbon significantly surpasses the world's best counterparts in terms of performance indicators. It will eliminate the need for foreign imports, utilizing affordable local raw materials instead of cutting down live trees.

The proposed production process is entirely waste-free. It generates valuable byproducts like ballast-free fertilizers that improve soil structure and boost crop yields. The domestic carbon will be used for industrial wastewater treatment, nuclear plant safety by removing radionuclides, medicine, and the food industry.

The project is a collaborative success between the Research Institute for Physical Chemical Problems of BSU and the Faculty of Chemistry, led by Dmitry Grynshpan. The team is currently refining the technology with the ultimate goal of scaling it up to full industrial production.

⭐️ BSU Lyceum Student Wins Bronze Medal at International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence.

📌 This marks the first time Belarusian school students have participated in this tournament. Evgeny Shkumat, a graduate of the BSU Lyceum named after F.E. Dzerzhinsky, won a bronze medal at the 3rd International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI-2026). Timur Sivko, a student from Gymnasium No. 1 in Grodno, was awarded a silver medal. The national team also included Rostislav Svechnikov (BSU Lyceum) and Vadim Vozmitel (Gymnasium No. 1 in Slutsk). The team was led by Alexey Tolstikov, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at BSU.

The team members were selected based on their performances at the "Engineers of the Future" Republican competition.

The IOAI aims to support talented youth and stimulate interest in IT and artificial intelligence technologies.

⭐️ BSU students win six gold medals at the International Mathematics Competition

Students from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (FAMCS) at BSU became award winners at the 33rd International Mathematics Competition (IMC-2026).

📌 The participants had to solve 10 problems in algebra, mathematical analysis, combinatorics, analytic geometry, and number theory. The Belarusian national team achieved one of its best results in over 25 years of competing. In terms of the number of gold medals, the team ranked second among 135 university teams.

🔷 About 30 Chinese students to participate in BSU Summer School

The participants of the program will be students from the Joint Institute of Dalian University of Technology and BSU (JIDB). The Summer School will last five days. The opening ceremony will take place on July 28, with the participation of BSU Vice-Rector for Economy and Material-Technical Development Natalia Ignatovich and Director of the Joint Institute of BSU and DUT (JIBD) Liudmila Liashenko.

📌 A rich program has been prepared for the students. The schedule includes seminars, master classes, language practices, lectures by BSU staff, as well as excursions.

🔷 About 20 BSU developments will be presented at an international exhibition in Indonesia

The university's achievements will be demonstrated at the international hospitality, food, and beverage industry exhibition "FHI – Food & Hospitality Indonesia". The large-scale event will take place from July 21 to 24 in Jakarta.

📌 BSU will showcase several developments. For instance, one of them is the "Smart City Food" series of food products. It includes dry compositions of pre-chopped or crushed dried vegetables, herbs, spices, salt, and other ingredients.

The Chinese delegation was led by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Zheng Zhiqiang. The meeting took place on July 16, with the participation of BSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Internationalization of Education Victar Kochyn.

📌 The purpose of the foreign colleagues' visit was to develop bilateral interaction in the fields of education and science. Zheng Zhiqiang expressed a strong interest in expanding partnerships in the areas of design and journalism.
