AVIATION AWARENESS MASTERCLASS WORKSHOP — SELEBI PHIKWE
On Saturday, September 5th, Reymo Aviation Hosted an Aviation Awareness Masterclass Workshop in partnership with TOSBA Consultancy & Training. The event brought together aviation professionals, students, and community leaders for a day of learning, inspiration, networking, and meaningful discussions about the future of aviation in Botswana and Africa.
Highlights from the Workshop
Moemedi Babutsi — Commercial Pilot and Founder of Reymo Aviation, opened the workshop by introducing Reymo Aviation, its vision, and the various opportunities the company is working towards within Botswana’s aviation sector. He also gave attendees insight into the Reymo Aviation website and how it is being developed as a platform through which people can learn more about the company, its services, and its initiatives.
His presentation focused mainly on why aviation matters, providing a detailed look at aviation as an entire ecosystem rather than an industry limited to pilots and aircraft. He highlighted the importance of cargo operations, ground handling, aircraft maintenance, air traffic control, airport infrastructure, logistics, training, and other supporting services that collectively make aviation possible. He also emphasized the potential of aviation to contribute to economic development, create employment, improve connectivity, and open opportunities for Botswana and the wider African continent.
Motswedi Moses — Student at Aviation Academy Flying Mission and SRC Minister of Sports & Entertainment, presented on the engineering and aircraft maintenance side of aviation. He highlighted the importance of aircraft maintenance and engineering in maintaining safe and reliable aviation operations, while also showcasing the opportunities available to young people who wish to pursue technical careers within the aviation industry in Botswana and across Africa.
Aone Gaseitsiwe — Founder of AirBridge Botswana, focused on the technology and digital side of aviation. He introduced AirBridge as an aviation marketplace, with the vision of building systems and solutions originating from Botswana that can connect aviation businesses and customers more efficiently.
His presentation highlighted how technology can make it easier for aviation companies to reach more clients online, access new markets, and generate additional revenue. He emphasized the importance of developing digital platforms that are built locally but capable of serving a much wider African and international aviation market.
Tshiamo Koma — Accountant, Mr Botswana Finalist 2026, and Founder of Idle No More, shared how the workshop inspired him to further engage the youth of Selebi Phikwe. He emphasized the role that aviation awareness and youth-focused activities can play in creating positive opportunities for young people and helping address social challenges such as substance abuse and crime, particularly in the wake of the BCL mine closure.
The Outcome
The workshop was informative, interactive, and engaging, providing attendees with a broader understanding of aviation and the many career and business opportunities that exist beyond the cockpit.
Our online and physical community was also highly active and supportive throughout the workshop, contributing to the overall engagement and creating an environment where ideas could be exchanged openly. Towards the end of the workshop, a number of questions were shared by participants, both during and following the presentations. These questions helped expand the conversation beyond the prepared topics, allowing the speakers to address additional perspectives, clarify important issues, and explore practical opportunities within the aviation sector.
The discussions also created an opportunity for students, aviation professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders to network and exchange ideas, strengthening connections that can contribute to future collaboration within the sector.
Events such as the Aviation Awareness Masterclass demonstrate that aviation is not just about flying. It is about building an ecosystem of safety, technology, engineering, logistics, business, and innovation — creating opportunities for young people and contributing to the economic development of Botswana and Africa.
