This was said by the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Aubrey Lesaso in parliament this afternoon.

The number of school dropouts at Primary level is 1105, which is 3% of school going children at Primary school level. And Secondary, 2566 which is 1.3% of school going children at Secondary school level.

Lesaso was responding to a question by Member of Parliament for Ngami, Kainangura Hikuama who wanted to know the number of children of school going age (4-19) in the country who do not attend school, and the cause(s) or reasons for being out of school.

The main reasons for dropouts are dissertation and truancy, while the other reasons are religion, abuse by parents, substance abuse, bullying, teenage pregnancy, early marriages, illness, expulsion and fees (in private schools).
