Todayโs Fun Walk & Wellness Day was more than just a community eventโit was a fundraiser dedicated to restoring sight through our Cataract Surgery Outreach Program. A heartfelt thank you to the entire Al-Nur community for showing up, participating actively, and supporting this meaningful cause.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to all ๐๐ฝ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ป๐ผ๐ฟ๐ for their generous contributions. Special thanks to ๐๐ฟ ๐๐ฎ๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐โ๐ ๐๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ฐ for providing free health checks (blood pressure, blood sugar & BMI) and to ๐๐๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ ๐ข๐ฝ๐๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐๐ for offering free vision screenings during todayโs event.
On 21 May 2026, Al-Nur School proudly led a life-changing cataract surgery outreach in partnership with dedicated medical professionals and healthcare providers.
Through this initiative, 4 patients successfully received ๐ณ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ ๐๐๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐, restoring their vision and improving their quality of life. One patient was unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances.
The surgeries were carried out by Dr Gustavo and Dr Anna of Karong Clinics, with screenings conducted by Dr Thanuja Panicker from Eyelight Optometrists. Coordination and support were provided by Mr Monthati Madibela and Mr Jerad, alongside Medlane Day Hospital.
Al-Nur School sponsored the program with ๐ฃ๐ฑ๐ฌ,๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ, covering surgical costs, intraocular lenses, and medicationโensuring all patients received treatment at no cost.
The impact was immediate and powerful. All patients experienced ๐๐๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐๐ณ๐๐น ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป and expressed heartfelt gratitude.

Al-Nur School officially opened today, 4th of May, and we are proud to begin a new academic term.
Our teachers have started the term today with full staff and departmental meetings, setting the foundation for a focused and successful term ahead. The school is ready, and preparations are in place for effective teaching and learning.

The competition ran as a rigorous five-day virtual programme hosted at Enko Botho School ( from 9th April to 13th April), with both team and individual categories.

Al-Nur School delivered an outstanding performance at the inaugural Africa World Schools Debate Championship 2026, held at the University of Pretoria from 28 March to 1 April 2026. Competing against some of the strongest debate teams on the continent, the school showcased exceptional talent, preparation, and teamwork across both junior and senior divisions.
The school was represented by a dynamic group of debaters. The Al-Nur Juniors team comprised Grace Seduke, Faiza Shahid, and Afrin Dasthakeer. In the senior division, Al-Nur fielded two teams: Al-Nur 1 (Seratwa Segaetsho, Kagiso Molelowatladi, and Saniya Faraz) and Al-Nur 2 (Buhlebenkosi Ncube, Noli Ofetotse, and Allisen Zirebwa). All teams were coached by Ms C. Makhala, whose guidance and expertise played a pivotal role in their success.
In the Junior Division, Al-Nur Juniors emerged as champions after a remarkable victory against Peterhouse of Zimbabwe in the grand final. Their performance was marked by confidence, sharp analysis, and persuasive delivery.
In the Senior Division, Al-Nur delivered an equally impressive showing, finishing as runners-up to RPDA Zimbabwe. Both senior teams demonstrated depth, consistency, and high-level strategic debating throughout the tournament.
Individually, Al-Nur speakers achieved exceptional rankings. In the senior category, Buhlebenkosi Ncube placed 4th overall, Noli Ofetotse 5th, and Allisen Zirebwa 6th. In the junior category, Afrin Dasthakeer ranked 4th, Grace Seduke 6th, and Faiza Shahid 9th overall. Additionally, Faiza Shahid secured an impressive 3rd place in the Public Speaking finals.
This remarkable performance highlights Al-Nur Schoolโs growing dominance in African schools debating and reflects the dedication, discipline, and excellence of its students and coaching staff.
