It is a sad week as the country mourns the passing away of one of the giants of this country, His Excellency Dr Festus G. Mogae, the former President of the Republic of Botswana.

May the mercies of GOD be with the family as they strive to mourn the loss of a beloved member but to have at the same time keep pace with the demanding schedule of the burial and mourning schedules. The former First Lady and the children really need our prayers. Seeing them having to appear at all the events really touches the humanity that is inside each one of us.

At Mookane Farmers Day, we remain committed to protecting our livestock, supporting our farmers and safeguarding livelihoods. Through the construction and rehabilitation of boundary fences, we are reinforcing our frontline defence against the spread of foot-and-mouth disease and helping to control uncontrolled cattle movement to the north.

Together, we continue to build a stronger, safer and more resilient agricultural sector for our communities and future generations..

Lets brace ourselves for serious challenges in the agric sector. The combined effects of FMD, and the chocking of inputs that come through the Straight of Hormuz are going to be devastating to SADC.

Fuel, fertilizers, equipment etc are directly affected and we shall see a sudden rise in prices as scarcity sets in. This is the emerging reality
