GOVERNMENT EYES COMMERCIALISATION OF STUDENT INNOVATIONS AT UB DEGREE SHOW
The Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Hon Tiroeaone Ntsima, has announced plans to support the commercialisation of 58 student innovations showcased at the University of Botswana (UB) 2026 Degree Show.
Speaking during the exhibition held on the 9th of June 2026 at the UB Campus Indoor Sports Centre, Minister Ntsima said government was committed to ensuring that promising innovations developed by young people were transformed into viable businesses capable of creating jobs and contributing to economic growth.
To achieve this, he revealed plans to bring together all 58 innovators under a single platform to explore opportunities for incubation, funding and commercialisation. He emphasised that universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions should not be viewed as competitors but as complementary partners in driving innovation, industrialisation and national development. UNIVERSITY OF BOTSWANA AND DIRECTORATE OF INTELLIGENCE AND SECURITY SIGN LANDMARK MOU
The University of Botswana (UB) and Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) officially formalised a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during a signing ceremony held at the UB Council Chamber on 10th of June 2026.
Vice Chancellor, Professor David Norris, signed on behalf of UB while DIS Director General, Brigadier Peter Magosi signed on behalf of his organisation.
In his welcoming remarks, Professor Norris described the signing of the MoU as a historic milestone that would unlock numerous opportunities for collaboration between the two institutions. He noted that as Botswana’s principal intelligence agency, the DIS played a critical role in safeguarding national security and maintaining the country’s reputation as one of the safest in the region. UB CRYSTAL NETBALL TEAM STRIKES SILVER AT DIVISION B NETBALL FINAL
University of Botswana (UB) Crystals made an impressive start in Division B, finishing as silver medallists at the Division B Top 8 Finals held over the weekend at the Royal Aria Indoor Courts in Tlokweng.
The Botswana Netball Association (BONA) Division B Top 8 Finals brought together some of the country’s top-performing netball teams over the weekend at the Royal Aria Indoor Courts in Tlokweng.
UB Crystals put up a spirited performance but narrowly lost 30–37 to Prisons in a closely contested final. Prisons led 12–9 in the first quarter but Crystals responded strongly in the second quarter, tightening their defence and closing the gap as the match progressed. CIUB HOST 2026 ‘CHINESE BRIDGE’ CHINESE SHOW FOR BOTSWANA PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
The University of Botswana (UB), in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at the University of Botswana (CIUB), hosted the 2026 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Show for Botswana Primary School Students at the University Theatre Hall, Block 253, bringing together learners from across the country to demonstrate their Chinese language proficiency, cultural knowledge and artistic expression.
The event, aimed at promoting cultural exchange and strengthening educational ties between Botswana and China, featured speeches from key stakeholders who underscored the importance of language learning and global understanding.
