We have separate specialists and wards for cardiac problems, cancer, diabetes and other chronic illnesses, and yet why is it stigmatising to have separate wards for patients living with HIV? Would the stigma be less if HIV was lumped together with other diseases/illnesses?

DID U KNOW?
There are currently 2 major types of HIV-HIV1 and HIV2.There is also another minor type of HIV3 and in 2009 it was announced in France that a futher type, HIV4, had been discovered.
Both HIV 1 and 2 are thought to have evolved from versions of the virus found in certain monkey species. For example HIV 1 is thought to have originated from Chimpanzees in Central Africa whilst HIV 2 from the Sooty Mangabey Monkey in Western Africa.
The viruses are thought to have crossed over to humans through cuts in the skin during the slaughter and handling of meat and whilst monkeys show no signs of disease progression in the new human host HIV found new host to infect. This crossover(zoonosis) initially was thought to have been isolated and there are reports of deaths in central Africa early in the 20th century. The zoonosis became complete when the virus became transmissible from one human to another.
