PRESS STATEMENT
The schools are scheduled to open in earnest on the 14th January 2025. The country has gladly received widespread rainfall with some areas receiving heavier showers which resulted in flash floods in some places. These floods have led to some schools being flooded or their access being cut off. This therefore means some Government schools may not be ready to re-open as planned.
The Regional Operations Directors, together with the Disaster Management Committees at the affected localities are monitoring the situation closely and taking appropriate action.
Therefore, as the Minister responsible for Child Welfare and Basic Education, I have found it fit to advise that those schools affected as I have described and may not be ready to open because of flooding and other factors, should delay re-opening and continue to provide regular feedback on the state of affairs until the situation normalizes.
Hon. Minister Nono Kgafela Mokoka
MINISTER OF CHILD WELFARE & BASIC EDUCATION
