Following the pronouncement by President Advocate Duma Boko on EIMCâs mandatory national assignment to transform public education infrastructure, there is renewed national momentum to address conditions that impede learning and the provision of safe, dignified public school environments.
EIMCâs reform agenda is being actively supported and accelerated through close collaboration with key stakeholders. The EIMC Executive Management Team recently met with the Reforms Unit in the Office of the President, which has demonstrated strong commitment to ensuring urgency, alignment, and the removal of bottlenecks that have historically constrained delivery.
This partnership is central to fast-tracking the operationalisation of EIMCâs mandate. Through this coordinated approach, EIMC is advancing reforms aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and delivery at scale.
EIMC is committed to efficiently delivering across the full infrastructure value chain, including:
⢠Infrastructure development
⢠Lifecycle asset management
⢠Non-teaching support services
⢠Digitisation of systems and processes
⢠Innovative financing mechanisms to ensure sustainable future funding of public-school infrastructure
The urgency of this work is underscored by the current state of public schools, which necessitated the establishment of EIMC.
We look forward to continued engagement with our valued stakeholders, including community leaders, PTAs, alumni, teachers, school principals, parents, and partners across the education ecosystem, to ensure the successful delivery and sustainability of public school infrastructure for the future.

Vandalism in Our Schools Is Not Just Damage to Property â It Is Damage to Our Future
As we continue touring schools during our management takeover at the Education Infrastructure and Management Company - EIMC, one clear and urgent theme continues to emerge: the need for stronger community partnership in preventing vandalism.
Every broken window.
Every stolen tap.
Every classroom desk set alight.
This is not merely infrastructure being destroyed â it is opportunity.
Schools are not just government property. They are national assets. They are community investments. They are sacred spaces where the next generation is shaped and prepared for the future.
When schools are vandalised, âthe systemâ does not suffer in isolation.
Our children do.
Scarce resources that should fund new classrooms, digital tools, and improved facilities are instead redirected toward avoidable repairs. Progress slows. Momentum is lost.
The cost of vandalism is not only financial.
It erodes morale.
It disrupts learning.
It normalises a culture of disregard for shared responsibility.
We cannot aspire to build a prosperous nation while tolerating the destruction of the very institutions meant to uplift us.
Addressing this challenge requires collective ownership:
⢠Parents reinforcing values at home.
⢠Communities actively protecting local schools.
⢠Leaders ensuring accountability.
⢠Young people recognising that short-term actions carry long-term consequences.
Infrastructure development requires significant investment. Maintenance requires discipline. Rebuilding after vandalism is entirely avoidable.
As we embark on the journey of refurbishing schools, we look forward to partnering with PTAs, alumni, parents, and learners to drive awareness and foster a shared commitment to protecting our schools. These are national assets that must remain intact for future generations to benefit.
Let us protect what we have built.
Let us safeguard the spaces where futures are formed. Safeguarding our schools is safeguarding our nationâs future.

For decades, the way we think about school infrastructure has been relatively simple: government allocates money, contractors build brick-and-mortar classrooms, and the system moves on to the next project. But across much of the world, this traditional model is increasingly proving too slow, too expensive, and too limited to meet the growing demand for quality learning environments.
Botswana is no exception.
If we are serious about ensuring that every child has access to a safe and functional place to learn, we must rethink not only how we build schools, but also how we finance them. This is precisely the opportunity that the Education Infrastructure and Management Company (EIMC) presents.
At its core, EIMC represents a shift from a narrow, government-only funding model to a modern financing platform that brings together public resources, private capital, development partners, and philanthropic donors.
In other words, the future of education infrastructure will not be financed by a single actor; it will be financed by partnerships.
