The Ministry of Telecommunications and Innovation through the Department of Digital Communication Infrastructure and Business (DCIB) commemorated the annual World Telecommunications and Information Society Day on the 15th of May 2026.

In preparation for this day, Girls in ICT Union organised a training workshop for girls which targeted:

Introduction to computers
Robotics
Digital Content Creation

Five girls from grades 4, 5 & 6 were chosen to attend this week long training which was sponsored by Orange Botswana and BTC.

At the end of the training, the learners were awarded certificates of attendance and also merchandise from the two telecommunication companies.

The learners were also given a test on the content they learnt from the training and a learner from Mathangwane in Standard 5 scooped position 1 from 80 students who attended the workshop.

We are proud and hope for more trainings in future to empower our girl learners.

We were priviledged to have Young Women of Africa organisation identify and recognise our school deserving of a Sanitary Drive.

We received a donation of sanitary towels with a very powerful and impactful education/talk around menstural hygiene and confidence through pre-teen body changes.

The sanitary education was well received by our learners and what was most pleasing was the inclusivity, high engagement and interest from our boy learners. They did not shy away from handing over the sanitary towels to their sisters and asking questions around the talk. We are indeed raising a different generation of young men too.

No girl should miss school because of lack of sanitary towels.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to YWOA for their sincere donation and wish they continue to make impactful initiatives that educate, empower and strengthen communities all across the country.

Yesterday we witnessed our school head Mrs Mothembo being coronated 2nd Princess Ms Tonota Sub region at Letlhabile CJSS Tonota.

A jubilant spirit filled the air as the staff rallied behind her from her preparation till the crown sat on her head.

We are really proud Pris!!! 😉👑
