What happens when students step beyond classrooms and begin to learn with each other, across cultures?
Across the Lensโan IndiaโBhutan multimedia storytelling exchange brought this vision to life at Royal Thimphu College. The initiative was undertaken by RTCโs Communication Arts & Creative Media in collaboration with Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication (SIMC), Pune, and was supported by the India-Bhutan Foundation.
The exchange involved cross-border mobility for students and faculty, immersive fieldwork, and a collaborative buddy system. The students worked closely across cultures to co-create powerful multimedia stories rooted in real experiences.
The journey culminated in a Storytelling Symposium, where nine student-produced multimedia stories were screened to an audience of 200+ Communication Arts and Creative Media students, alongside faculty, media professionals, and distinguished guests.
Spanning themes such as culture, environment, education, fintech, and digital society, the stories reflected deep intercultural learning, empathy, and collaboration.
Speaking at the symposium, Mr Aniket Govind Mandavgane, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Bhutan, emphasised the power of visual storytelling. โMany of the stories produced during this project carry the seeds for future projects that can be funded by IBF,โ Mr Mandavgane said.
Project lead Dr Pallavi Majumdar said that the exchange gave the students an opportunity to experience a country not through a tourist lens but as a lived reality.
The symposium included a panel which gave the student storytellers a platform to reflect on cross-border storytelling.
At RTC, we remain committed to creating transformative, globally connected learning experiences.

A one-day workshop on Using Generative AI for Academic Learning was successfully conducted by Dr. Tiatemsu Longkumer, Senior Lecturer, Department of Anthropology.
The session offered students practical insights into harnessing AI to learn more effectively, analyse academic readings with clarity, craft smarter prompts, and even build personalised AI-driven learning projects.
More than just a technical introduction, the workshop challenged students to rethink how they engage with knowledge in an increasingly digital world.
The conversation is no longer about whether to use Generative AI - but how well it is being used to truly elevate learning.
