We are excited to share that our Founder, Thinley Choden is a National Geographic Explorer. As a Nat Geo Explorer, she designed “Ice to Identity: A Spatial Thinking and Place-based Climate Solutions” youth fellowship for 30, Grade 11 Bhutanese students from 5 schools across 3 districts.
We successfully completed the kick-off convening of the Ice to Identity Fellowship! From July 6–9, 30 student participants and teachers from Darla Higher Secondary School, Dechenchholing Higher Secondary School, Drukgyel Higher Secondary School, Phuentsholing Higher Secondary School, and The Royal Academy came together in Paro for an intensive and immersive workshop.
This Fellowship merges spatial thinking with place-based climate solutions to learn how glaciers and rivers influence and shape lifestyles in the Wangchu River Basin. Over the last four days, our fellows dove deep into understanding and reading Bhutan’s glacial landscapes, water systems, gender roles, and cultural narratives, while building digital storytelling skills. They explored, they built, and they left the workshop with clear foundations for their upcoming capstone projects.
Congratulations to the cohort as they officially prepare to head into field research and continue their year-long exploration! 🇧🇹💡
