A Week of Stories, Imagination, and the Joy of Reading!
The Lower Block of Dechencholing Higher Secondary School was filled with stories, voices, music, imagination, and creativity as we celebrated a vibrant week-long Reading Week from 7–11 September under the theme “Literacy for People, the Planet, and Prosperity.”
The week was thoughtfully designed to give our young learners opportunities to experience literacy beyond the pages of a book. Through a variety of engaging activities, children were encouraged to read, listen, speak, perform, create, and express themselves with confidence.
Reading Theatre brought stories to life through expressive reading and performance, while Open Mic Melodies added a musical dimension to the celebration, allowing children to express themselves through rhythm, voice, and song.
The Skit presentations further encouraged teamwork, creativity, and confident communication, while the Author’s Chair provided a special opportunity for children to step into the shoes of authors, share their creative work, and experience the joy of being both a writer and an audience.
Storytelling gave our young narrators the opportunity to bring stories to life through voice, expression, and imagination. As they shared their stories with their peers, they developed confidence in speaking and discovered the joy of captivating an audience.
Dear Character invited children to choose a favorite literary character and write a heartfelt letter to them. Through their letters and read-aloud presentations, students expressed their admiration, shared their thoughts, and connected personally with the characters and stories they love.
The celebration also embraced the richness of our national language. Our Dzongkha Domain teachers engaged students in meaningful activities, including Tsangmo, reading aloud, translating English terms into Dzongkha, and exploring the use of formal and informal terms. These activities strengthened students’ appreciation of language while highlighting the importance of preserving and celebrating our linguistic heritage.
From stories and performances to creative writing, music, and language exploration, the week provided a wonderful space for our children to discover that literacy is not merely about reading words—it is about finding our voice, understanding others, expressing ideas, and connecting with the world around us.
A heartfelt appreciation to our Lower Block teachers, Dzongkha and English teams, and our enthusiastic young learners for making Reading Week such a lively and meaningful celebration. Their creativity, participation, and enthusiasm truly brought the spirit of literacy to life.
As the curtains close on Reading Week, may the stories continue, the voices grow stronger, and the love for reading continue to flourish.
Read. Perform. Create. Express. Connect. Grow.
