Her Majesty was born on 21st May 1930 in Kalimpong, and is the only Queen Grandmother in the world.
Throughout pivotal moments in the history of our country, Her Majesty has made important contributions for the welfare of the Bhutanese people, and has alongside His Late Majesty Drukgyal Sumpa Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, helped steer Bhutan into modernity. Deeply beloved and respected, Her Majesty remains the true embodiment of compassion, wisdom and grace.
A foremost Patron of the Dharma, Her Majesty’s innumerable contributions to Buddhism encompass the restoration and preservation of numerous monasteries and heritage sites of deep spiritual and cultural significance to Bhutan. Her Majesty’s enduring devotion to the Dharma serves to inspire generations.
It is a special privilege to acknowledge the great debt of gratitude we owe Her Majesty for giving to Bhutan, our beloved Fourth Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

Posted • His Majesty Druk Gyalpo Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the Third Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan, was born on 2nd May 1928 at the Thruepang Palace in Trongsa.
We remember His Majesty as a great monarch, whose vision and guidance led Bhutan to embark on its journey of modernization and progress. 2nd May is celebrated as Teacher’s Day in tribute to His Majesty and in recognition of the important role of teachers in our society.
