The Department conducted a weekend-long Hackathon for DSDA students under the theme “Bhutan by Data: Analyse, Predict, Innovate,” with activities primarily focused on Machine Learning (ML), data analysis, prediction, and innovation. The Hackathon provided students with an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical and collaborative problem-solving activities.
The students were divided into 10 groups, with each group working on a given problem by engaging in coding, data analysis, problem-solving, developing solutions, and interpreting results. The activity encouraged students to strengthen their computational thinking, creativity, teamwork, analytical skills, and practical application of data science techniques.
Throughout the Hackathon, students actively engaged in exploring data, developing analytical and predictive approaches, creating solutions, and interpreting their findings. The activity provided a platform for students to connect classroom concepts with real-world problems related to Bhutan and to explore how data can be used to understand issues, make predictions, and develop innovative solutions.
At the end of the Hackathon, each group was given an opportunity to present and explain their work, including their problem statement, approach, solution, results, and interpretation. The presentations allowed students to share their ideas, demonstrate their understanding of the concepts and techniques applied, and learn from the approaches taken by other groups.
The Department would also like to express its sincere appreciation to the coordinators, Dr. Phub Namgay and Mr. Norbu Zangpo, for their valuable support, guidance, and coordination throughout the Hackathon.
