Dawakha Lower Secondary School

Dawakha Lower Secondary School Vision: The school will grow as an ideal place for learning, making it as a green model lower secondary school in Bhutan.

Biography:
The school started as Dobji Primary School in 1966 at Dobji Dzong. Hence,the name was given as Dobji Primary School until it got changed to Dawakha Primary School quite recently. After a year it was shifted to a village called Tashigang not far away from the Dzong. The school remained in temporary shed for about three years in this village as it was not feasible for the community to construct permanent school. Then the school was shifted to its current place during the tenure of Dasho Sangay Penjor the then first DEO of Paro Dzongkhag and was named as Lhakhang Zerkha. It is still anonymous why the school has not taken the name of the place instead it was named as Dawakha despite the fact that Dawakha village is about 8 km away from the school. After that in 2002 the school was upgraded to Lower Secondary School.

The Spring Quarterly Test Results was formally declared on 2nd June, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of the Coronation Anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck and the event was graciously presided over by Lam Namgay of Phudrup Goempa, whose revered presence added immense sanctity to the occasion.
The ceremony also extended a warm welcome to our student, Tenzin Jorden, who had the honour of participating in the National Scouts Jamboree held from 26th–30th May 2026 in Paro.

The Helping Adolescents Thrive (HAT) Caregiver Support Program was held on 16th May, 2026 at Dawakha LSS, aimed at empowering caregivers with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to support adolescents’ mental health and overall wellbeing.

Objectives:
1. To educate caregivers about adolescent developmental challenges.
2. To provide strategies for supporting mental and emotional resilience.
3. To foster a community of support among caregivers.
4. To facilitate sharing of the best practices and experiences.

Coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of The Third Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, The teacher's day, 2026 was unique and special. The gathering of the past, present and the future of Dawakha was truly special. We witnessed the whole history of the school unfold before us.
The celebration at the school was graced by the Honorable Lyonpo Gyem Tshering, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR), the school’s first alumnus, together with eight other prominent alumnus from the batch of 1966.
We were also deeply honored to receive Lopen Pema, age 95, the first teacher of the school when it was known as Dobji Primary School back then.
This occasion marked one of the most auspicious Teacher’s Day celebrations in the school’s history, as parents and community members gathered to honor the teachers and staff with vibrant cultural dances and entertaining performances along with the students.
Upon the conclusion of the daytime proceedings, the entire student body and staffs’ gathered together for an evening of musical performances.
