The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program is a premier National Awards Recognition program for 6th graders in The Bahamas. Deveaux - Distinguished Charter President of the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council and was designed to salute the achievements of our younger achievers. Deveaux was impressed with the prestigious Florida College Student of the Year Awards Pr

ogram sponsored by Florida Leader Magazine and Oxendine Publishing Company (http://www.floridaleader.com/soty/) and felt the need to establish a national awards program in his country. Ricardo was one of seven finalists in the 1992 Florida College Student of the Year Awards Program. The History

In November 1996, the idea of a Student of the Year program was submitted to the Council for acceptance. The competition immediately received its endorsements from four educators who were serving as Executive Council Members at the time: Sharon Poitier (Alpha Kappa Alpha), Anastacia Brown (Delta Sigma Theta), Carolynn Hall-Knowles (Delta Sigma Theta) and Garnell Rolle (Zeta Phi Beta) and the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council. The program also received the endorsement of Senator Dame Dr. Ivy Dumont - Minister of Education (later Her Excellency Governor-General of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.) A committee was formed and Ms. Anastacia Brown was selected as the Committee Chairperson. The Council selected June 9th, 1997 as the date for the first Student of the Year awards program. Thirty-one (31) students representing private and public school students in New Providence were the first nominees in the awards ceremony. The ceremony was held at the Ballroom at Government House with Their Excellencies Sir Orville Turnquest - Governor-General and Lady Edith Turnquest in attendance. In his remarks, His Excellency challenged the Council to include the Family Islands in future contest. Vashti Darling, a ten-year-old sixth grade student of St. John's College was selected as the 1997 Primary School Student of the Year. Scholarship Sponsors

*A MESSAGE OF BLESSING*

As we begin another school year, I extend heartfelt prayers of blessing and encouragement to our Former Student of the Year Nominees and their parents.

May this new academic year be filled with purpose, promise, growth, and achievement. May it also be a year of unity, as administrators, teachers, staff, parents, and students work together, hand in hand, to create positive and nurturing school communities where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

I pray that God will bless every plan, guide every decision, strengthen every partnership, and give wisdom to all who have been entrusted with the education and development of our children.

May God bless our students, bless our parents, bless our educators, and bless our schools. May He guide us throughout this academic journey and make this a successful and memorable school year for all.

Wishing you a school year filled with purpose, growth, success, and countless reasons to celebrate.

๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ’š BACK TO SCHOOL AT QUEENโ€™S COLLEGE! ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŽ“

A NEW SCHOOL YEAR. A NEW JOURNEY. NEW HEIGHTS TO REACH!

Today was a particularly special day as I had the pleasure of walking my daughter, Paige, onto campus as she begins her SENIOR YEAR JOURNEY at Queenโ€™s College! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ’š

What a beautiful reminder of how quickly the years pass โ€” from those first days of school to now standing on the threshold of one of the most exciting chapters of her academic journey. Grade 12 is here! And I could not be prouder!

But todayโ€™s Back-to-School experience became even more special as I had the opportunity to greet and encourage several former Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year nominees who are beginning another important chapter in their educational journeys:

โญ Grayson Roberts โ€” 2021 First Runner-Up & 2026/2027 Head Boy

โญ Lazario Bastian โ€” 2022 Sixth Place Finalist & Grade 11 Honour Student

โญ Brielle Wood โ€” 2026 Fifth Runner-Up & Grade 7 Student

โญ Nathan Alleyne โ€” 2026 Seventh Place Finalist & Grade 7 Student

What a joy it is to see these young scholars continuing to grow, lead, achieve and SHINE! ๐ŸŒŸ

As they step into the 2026/2027 Academic Year, I wish Paige, Grayson, Lazario, Brielle, Nathan and the entire Queenโ€™s College family a phenomenal school year filled with excellence, purpose, achievement, friendship, growth and unforgettable memories.

May they embrace every opportunity, rise to every challenge, and continue to demonstrate that

EXCELLENCE IS NOT JUST A DESTINATION โ€” IT IS A WAY OF LIFE!

WELCOME BACK, QUEENโ€™S COLLEGE! ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŽ“

HEREโ€™S TO A PHENOMENAL 2026/2027 SCHOOL YEAR!

GO FORTH. EXCEL. ACHIEVE. SHINE! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’š
