Casa Laxmi Foundation The Foundation is a charitable trust that does not accept donations. Our mission is empowerment through educational, economic & spiritual advancement.

The Casa Laxmi Foundation is a charitable trust that does not accept donations. It was founded by the Kulkarni Family. Instead of raising money through donations for charitable causes, our Board devotes its time and expertise to earn money by delivering value to its clients, which can then be used for charitable purposes. At the core of our mission is the empowerment of people through educational,

economic and spiritual advancement to create the leaders of tomorrow. Our mandate is to provide tools, resources, grants, scholarships, mentoring and guidance to those who would not otherwise be able to further themselves. Our aim is to work with bright individuals with big aspirations to help them achieve their goals and create opportunities where none existed before. We also aim to build and support educational institutuions for gifted children and adults. All of our efforts are focused on one goal in order to create the greatest impact and to ensure that everyone has the chance to lead a productive and fulfilling life. Through dedication, perseverence and a direct focus, we look forward to being able to make lifelong differences in the lives of families and their communities across the world.

PARENT RESORT

The Institute will have an upscale, exclusive resort for parents and families to stay when visiting their children. We are seeking those individuals with a background in tourism, specifically in the managing and construction of word-class hotels and resorts, to join our Parent Resort Advisory Board. We are also looking for those with experience in consulting on, operating and constructing restaurants and spas, as the parent resort will have a separate gourmet dining facility and a spa, offering a host of therapies.

Steve Fitzgerald (England)

Steve Fitzgerald brings a wealth of experience to the table, having an extensive background in the hospitality and tourism industry. He currently provides investment consulting services to the largest leisure, tourism and investment company in China. In the past, Mr. Fitzgerald assisted in business development projects, including strategic sales and marketing, for exclusive resorts such as the Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, Six Senses Hotels Resorts & Spas, and Sapphire Cay. Through his endeavours, Mr. Fitzgerald has built up an extensive network of institutional investors, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and insurance companies.

The Foundation will require an Advisory Board to devise and implement admissions policies, entrance examinations and the application review process. We would welcome professionals such as child psychiatrists and psychologists to design entrance examinations to test intelligence quotient for the various age groups of students. We are also seeking those qualified to work with vulnerable children in designing and administering these entrance examinations.

We are seeking education experts and educators, specifically those with a background in early childhood education, to assist in devising not only an academic curriculum, but also a regime for extra-curricular programs to ensure that students are as well-rounded as possible. We will work towards obtaining an accreditation from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), and would welcome those who are familiar with the IBO and its curricula.

Meet the Head of the Education Advisory Board:

Bill Boyer (Switzerland)

Bill Boyer brings a wealth of knowledge to our team, with over 30 years experience in the field of education. In 1989, he joined Neuchatel Junior College (NJC), an elite private school in Switzerland, as Principal following 12 years as Head of the French Department and Director of Admissions at Crescent School, a leading Canadian boys’ school in Toronto. He served NJC from 1989 to 1992, then returned to Canada upon being appointed Head of the prestigious Toronto French School and later, Head of Hillfield-Strathallan College in Hamilton, Ontario. During his tenure at Hillfield-Strathallan, Mr. Boyer served on NJC’s Canadian Advisory Committee as a volunteer director for seven years. In 2009, he returned to NJC as Head of School where he currently serves.

Mr. Kulkarni began his career with Nortel Networks. His last role with the company was that of assistant corporate controller. Upon leaving Nortel Networks, Mr. Kulkarni embarked on a successful entrepreneurial career with a Toronto-based plastics business. Over the past thirty years, he has been instrumental in acquisitions, mergers, divestitures and the operation of multiple international businesses in various industries including plastics, electronics, retail, manufacturing and financial services in Canada, the United States and India. Mr. Kulkarni holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and an MBA from the University of Saskatchewan. In the 1970s, Mr. Kulkarni purchased a small company and has since turned it into a multi-million dollar corporation operating globally including in Canada, the United States, Europe and Hong Kong. Mr. Kulkarni’s business interests range from manufacturing and distribution of thermoelectric coolers to injection-moulded goods servicing the horticulture industry in Canada and the United States. Mr. Kulkarni, together with his brother Kiran, employ over 3,000 people worldwide through their various business concerns.

Mr. Levac is the current Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. He has been heralded by most MPPs and political commentators as one of the most effective Speakers in recent memory, presiding with dignity and integrity. Once the current government completes its mandate in 2018, Mr. Levac will become the longest serving elected Speaker in Ontario history. Mr. Levac received the Canada 125 Medal in 1993, and was named Brantford, Ontario’s Citizen of the Year in 1997. He also served as co-ordinator of Queen Elizabeth II’s Royal Visit to Brantford in 1997. He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal in 2012. He has also been awarded an Ontario Service Award and the YMCA Canada Peace Medal. Mr. Levac is a teacher by profession, and therefore is very passionate about this cause.

Maya Shahani brings a wealth of experience to the table and has an extensive background in philanthropy, specifically related to children and education. She currently serves as the Chairperson of SAGE Foundation and co-founded the organization in 2012 as a step towards fulfilling her vision of building schools for underprivileged children throughout India and providing them with skills that make them employable. SAGE is committed to educating under resourced children and giving wealth generating skills training to their families for creating extraordinary lives. Through adopting major slums and villages in and around Mumbai, SAGE envisages transforming the world one village at a time and received recognition at the Clinton Global Initiative for this vision. Ms. Shahani is also the Trustee of the Thadomal Shahani Trust, founded in 1952, with the primary objective of promoting quality education, healthcare and housing. She is the Governing Board Member of the HSNC Board, running 27 prime educational institutes in Mumbai with over 50,000 students graduating every year. Ms. Shahani further serves as the Chairperson of the Thadomal Shahani Centre for Management, the Business School of the future, which imparts global quality management education and focuses on creating heart centric business leaders. CFM has recently won the DNA award for the best business school for industry academia linkages. She is also the Vice Chairperson of Global Dialogue Foundation and Founder Trustee of Women’s Movement for Peace and Prosperity under the aegis of Times Foundation. She is the Education board member of Sadhu Vaswani Mission and Priyadarshni Academy, Patron of Cancer Patients Aid Association and Governing Board Member of the Bombay Mothers’ and Children Welfare Society as well as Chairperson of the Justice H.K. Chainani Elder’s Home. Ms. Shahani is the winner of the Global Peace Award, The Jewel of India Award and the Light of Asia Award. Her family owns the East India Paper Company, one of India’s oldest and largest paper & paperboard companies.
