July 1st, 2022, marked the start of my year as President of Healing Communicators Toastmasters Club 7178. Toastmasters is a program that is designed to develop both the speaker and the leader. The experience as President was truly priceless.

In leadership there are so many lessons that you come across and every environment is incredibly different. The tips and lessons you learn however, can be transferred as you continue to grow. Here are seven (7) tips I want to share from my experience this year:

💜-You don’t always get to pick your team; learn the members of your team and how to work with them

💜-Resolve conflict timely and directly, they don’t solve themselves

💜-Adjust your leadership style when needed
e.g. Laissez-faire may need to change to Autocratic as necessary

💜-Celebrate wins or highlight improvements with a clear plan forward to achieve your goals

💜-Know when to reassign or resign a task from a member; not everyone who is willing is able

💜-Plans are easier said than done, and don’t always go as expected; expect to pívot

💜-Learning is always going to happen whether goals are met or not, take notes

Our self-discovery journey involves a level of honesty and reflection that only happens when we trust ourselves every step of the way.
