🌿⛪ At the end of May 1888, Vincent travelled from Arles to Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a resort on the Mediterranean. In the few days he stayed there, he made nine drawings, two seascapes of the beach and fishing boats, and this painting of the fishing village.
The rows of purple crops (possibly vines and/or flax) lead your eyes to the village with the church at its centre.

Did you notice? Vincent painted the sides of the houses facing the sun in warm and light tints, and the shadow sides in blue.
