Last week, I contributed to The Dialogue’s Financial Services Advisor on the recent debate around Pix and its role in Brazil’s payment ecosystem.

The discussion touches on issues that are becoming increasingly relevant globally, including public digital infrastructure, competition in payments and the resilience of domestic financial systems.

In my comments, I highlighted how Pix has helped expand financial inclusion in Brazil, lower transaction costs and create a common infrastructure on which banks, fintechs and payment institutions can compete and innovate.

I also mentioned the broader strategic dimension of payments. Having strong domestic infrastructure does not mean closing the market to international players. Brazil’s experience shows that public infrastructure and private-sector competition can coexist and contribute to a more efficient ecosystem.

Thanks to Gene Kuleta and The Dialogue for the invitation.

Brazil has become an important reference for how public digital infrastructure can transform financial services and provide inclusion.

Pix and Open Finance are good examples. Both created common infrastructure that expanded access, lowered barriers and gave financial institutions and fintechs new rails on which to innovate.

And their influence is increasingly visible beyond Brazil, as other countries look at different elements of the Brazilian experience when developing their own payment and data-sharing ecosystems.

I had the opportunity to discuss this, along with some of the latest developments in Brazilian financial services, on episode 1086 of the Fintech Insider podcast by 11:FS, alongside Kate Moody, Neira Jones and Matthew Goldman.

Here’s a short clip from our conversation.

[🇬🇧] Pix has become one of the world’s most successful instant payment systems and, more recently, part of the trade tensions between Brazil and the United States.

I spoke with Chilean newspaper El Mercurio about why describing Pix as anticompetitive offers an incomplete view. It is an open infrastructure that allows banks, fintechs and other providers to build services on top of it. It has expanded consumer choice and pushed the payments market to compete on price, convenience and innovation.

The debate also touches on payment sovereignty. Payments are strategic infrastructure, and countries should be able to ensure resilience, accessibility and competition without depending exclusively on a small number of international networks.

Thank you to Nicolás García de Val for the thoughtful article and for including my perspective.

Earlier this month, I spoke at Suichéate 2026 in Caracas, an invitation-only event organized by Suiche 7B for leaders from Venezuela’s banking, payments and technology ecosystem.

It was my first visit to Venezuela, and I was impressed by the country’s transformation and the ambition to modernize its payment infrastructure.

In my session, I shared perspectives on the evolving payments landscape in Latin America, including instant payments, interoperability, digital wallets and local payment infrastructure.

Congratulations to Suiche 7B for organizing such a strong event, and thanks to the team for the invitation and warm hospitality.

It was also a pleasure to share the stage with Carlos Jiménez, Ramón Heredia and Madelein Suárez, with Ana Vacarella as moderator.

I leave Caracas grateful for the experience and optimistic about Latin America’s role in financial innovation.

Latin America is growing fast in e-commerce, but turning that growth into tangible results depends on understanding how payments behave locally.

In this clip from my conversation on Fintech Insider Insights (by 11FS), alongside Benjamin Ensor and Motie Bring, I highlight why payment strategy needs to take into account the fragmentation of this segment in the region.

There is a lot of opportunity, but adaptable ex*****on on the ground makes all the difference.

Latin America is one of the fastest-growing e-commerce markets in the world, but succeeding here requires far more than simply entering the market.

I recently joined the latest episode of Fintech Insider Insights alongside Benjamin Ensor and Motie Bring, to discuss why APAC merchants are increasingly expanding into LATAM, the US$100 billion cross-border opportunity, and why payments strategy has become a decisive factor for growth.

We explored the main barriers global merchants face, the importance of local payment methods, and the practical strategies needed to compete and scale across Latin America.

A great conversation on one of the most dynamic regions in global commerce.
