In 2019, XEN had the pleasure to host Dra. Fabiane M. Borges (Antenna Rush) and Rafael Frazão for their “Anti-hijacking Dream Lab” workshop at Uferstudios Für Zeitgenössischen Tanz. In 2022, with considerable delay due to the pandemic, Zander Porter was invited by Fabiane as the third artist-in-residence at Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (National Institute for Space Research in São José dos Campos, Brazil) via her SACi-E program (Subjectivity, Art, and Space Sciences). Zander's research, coinciding with xyr MA at DAS Choreography, is titled "3M0T1NG" — mixing affects of human and computation, moving-feeling the somatic cyborg. Zander’s visit at INPE performs an experiment in the architecture of the anechoic chambers of INPE's LIT (Laboratory of Integration and Testing), proposing the body as a satellitic object enacting a social matrix in the absence of familiar collaborators.

During the first lockdown, Steph Aitch-Tee invited Pedro Marum and Lou Drago, to ruminate on the pandemic and to consider how to orient ourselves once more within our communities and consider the new challenges that we would face when protesting. Not long after recording, the death of George Floyd sparked global outrage and heightened urgency of combating institutional racism. We took this time to listen, reflect, and leave digital space for more pressing urgencies; Black activists, voices, and resources.

Now during our second lockdown, we have found ourselves doing archeological work, revisiting our thoughts, anxieties, and sounds that came with isolation. It feels relevant to share this now for the first time, to remember that we can extract many lessons and revive the tools and resources we managed to create in these first months. Since then, we have been through periods of heightened anxiety, solidarity, care and excitement, grief and loss, political turmoil. We may be depleted, but we are also more resourceful. It’s interesting to listen back to our months-younger selves and reflect on which predictions or worries manifested and which faded or intensified.

Nonsilent Protest became the first episode of Haus of Commons on Cashmere Radio. HoC undertakes a collective inquiry into identifying the various current social movements and aims to foster connections between these splintered groups.
You will hear the conversation between us recorded at the end of April. Our voices are interspersed with audio recordings collected by Natalia Domínguez Rangel as part of her series “Acoustic Ecologies”, where she asks people from around the globe to record their surroundings and interpret the way they are listening through the days of social distancing. From afar we can also hear revolutionary songs, protests, or the laughter and dancing feet of the drifters guided by Maria Scaroni, the initiator of “Techno Drift”, an open-source collective choreography, for dancing through nature, ruins or while invading public space alone, together, during the pandemic.

Kira Pascalle, from Crew: mind altering will present the results on a stud conducted to evaluate the changes in substance distribution and consumption during the pandemic, and Ravelength will introduce the project and its peer-to-peer Support Channel Group.

Ravelength is a collectively-run project of harm reduction, q***r care, and mental health initiated during the pandemic to tackle the q***r isolation during this period, to boost the literacy regarding psychoactive substances, and to promote the exchange of knowledge and tools across artistic and medical fields.

The project will gather artists, q***r collectives, awareness teams, medical doctors, and harm reduction projects together (at least) until the clubs re-open.

“RAVELENGTH”, is an upcoming collaborative to generate accessible tools for harm reduction, relief, and empowerment within the q***rfeminist electronic music scene and raver communities. By organizing online discussions, workshops, and support groups in collaboration with artists, healthcare professionals, and local community organizers, we call for a culture of solidarity and mutual aid.
