Did you know that Halloween is an old Irish celebration called...Samhain.
Halloween traditions in the West date back thousands of years to the festival of Samhain (pronounced 'Soo-when', 'So-ween' or 'Saw-wen'), the Celtic New Year's festival. The name means "summer's end", and the festival marked the close of the harvest season and the coming of winter. The Celts believed that the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead was thinnest at this time and so the dead could return and walk where they had before!

As tradições do Halloween no Ocidente remontam a milhares de anos do festival de Samhain (pronuncia-se 'so-when', 'So-ween' ou 'Saw-wen'), o festival de Ano Novo celta. O nome significa "fim do verão", e a festa marcou o fim da época de colheita e a chegada do inverno. Os celtas acreditavam que o véu entre os mundos dos vivos e dos mortos era mais fino nesta época e assim os mortos podiam voltar e andar onde tinham antes.
