Some info about Yoga Chants. Turn on Madonna singing the opening ashtanga mantra (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hprYoupKgg) and read our text about it.

Ashtanga Yoga traditionally has both an opening chant and a closing chant. Because of Yoga's ancient roots, chants (or mantras) are offered in Sanskrit, however their meaning is said to be universal as Sanskrit is the language of the heart.

Chanting acts to shift the consciousness of the individual practicing the chant to a higher level of vibration. This in turn brings us closer to our Source or Higher Self – the aspect of ourselves that remains eternal – and leaves the practitioner filled with peace and feeling calm and centred.

Studies have shown that when a person chants it can stabilise their heart rate, lower blood pressure, produce beneficial endorphins in the body and boost metabolic processes, so it perfectly compliments the physical practice of asana.

THE ASHTANGA YOGA OPENING MANTRA.

The Opening Prayer is a blessing of gratitude offered to the lineage of teachers and their students who have enabled this ancient practice to survive through thousands of years so that we can experience its benefits today. The recitation of this mantra cleanses the energy of the space we have chosen to practice yoga, as well as preparing the mind, body and emotions for the forthcoming Ashtanga sequence.

Gayatri Mantra 108 times Anuradha Paudwal 17/10/2014

Let's talk about mantras today! A little.

The Gayatri Mantra is one of the oldest and most powerful Vedic chants. It is chanted by many people all over the world every day to bring forth consciousness and light. It is said to facilitate physical, emotional and mental healing and helps to purify the subtle body.

This is a chant that we recite often to help create mindfulness and awaken our insight. When reciting the chant, the vibration, sound, rhythm and prana work to balance out the chakras and energy systems in the body, leaving one feeling inspired and at ease. Gayatri Mantra is a form of connection to the oneness that is the universe.

GAYATRI MANTRA

Happy World Vegetarian Day! And a good start of Vegetarian Awareness Month!

Vegetarian day is a day of celebration established by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978, "To promote the joy, compassion and life-enhancing possibilities of vegetarianism." It brings awareness to the ethical, environmental, health and humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle.

It's a great time to ask non-vegetarians in your life to give it a try too.
Together we can make the world a little bit better.
