To V or not to V🤔🤣
Does this video explain the concept clearly?
V-ing for acceleration, uphill, rough surfaces.
Not V-ing (ie straight ahead set down) for maintaining speed.

Have you ever “swept” away obstacles so the skaters behind you have a clear pathway?

This is a useful trick to be able to do - and it’ll bring you a lot of surprised appreciation. No one expects this when they see it. Works particularly well with large twigs and trash.

The difficulty with this move?
Balancing in the Scissor position but with your weight in the front skate (not the usual back skate). So practice it static and then slowly rolling before trying it with actual debris.

“It doesn’t matter how you skate — as long as you’re having fun and exercising.”

But actually, it does.

Most skaters regroup their stride in a toes-out “V” position without even realising.

It works at slow speeds to accelerate— but continuous acceleration just makes you tense and unstable.

Regroup with each skate pointing straight ahead and not turned out when you’re maintaining speed.

That’s where smooth skating starts.
You’ll feel the difference straight away.

Actually… it does matter.

Fun is great. But mechanics matter.

Toes-out regroup → short glide.
Short glide → weak push.
Weak push → limited fitness gains.

Same effort. Different outcome.
