Belletras: The Perpetual Lit

Belletras: The Perpetual Lit Explore the wonders of the words within a milieu of appreciation, support, and encouragement. This is where they can have other writers as company.

Belletras: the Perpetual Lit (or Belletras) is a society for creative writers founded in 21 March 2015 by Eric Sotelo, Sarah Rose Vilar, and Kimberly Orquiola. It aims to build and support a community of writers of fiction and poetry who aspire to express themselves through their writings and enhance their skills in literature while working with other people who share the same passion as them. Thi

s society seeks to encourage the members produce writings regularly and discover their strengths as writers by sharing writing tips, guidelines, and advice during meetings and sessions. It hopes to delve into the types of creative literature through discussion and talks on different genres wherein each genre will have an assigned writing coach. These coaches will serve as trainers who will facilitate as well as guide the members. Moreover, members’ finest works will be published online so as to let other people read and appreciate their writings. It is also a way for members to improve their writing skills and to try different writing styles so they can identify their forte. This society is a way for writers to gain confidence in writing and letting people read their works. This is where writers receive support, appreciation, and encouragement. It is a place to discover one’s self and identity as a writer since being with other writers can help one grow and develop not only as a writer, but also as a person. Working with people who share the same interests and passion would be a pleasant way to travel with words and fine literature. Belletras intends to inspire people and fellow students through the members’ writings. It also wishes to encourage others to value and develop a liking for writing and reading creative literature that may assist them in understanding the world and most likely urge them to become a better person.

Turn, turn, turn goes the record on the turntable
And I watch with weary eyes its constant motion
The record plays on and the harmonica
Opens the song
While I sit, in a daze watching the urban landscapes
In seeming anticipation of someone and no one in particular
Perfectly content to sit and watch everyone exist
Whilst feeling your own existence ceasing
The record is flipped and on comes the song
Telling you to go away from my window
And leave at your own chosen speed
Then I remember you suddenly and reality
Smacked me in the face
Since I'm not the one you want babe
Neither am I the one you need
They say that if you what you feel is true, then you shouldn't
Think twice
But it's alright, I've thought about you a couple or more times
So maybe this is just a passing sensation
Something that'll eventually blow in the wind
But how many times can you turn the other cheek
And pretend that you don't see me?
S**t, I better start swimming away from the current
Of overwhelming feelings before I sink like a stone
But the times have changed and will be changing
So maybe feelings can do the same but the record goes on
As life goes on
So maybe we'll go our separate ways without a word
In a week or sob
You go on with your life
And I'll roll on like a stone
With no direction
because I've made your silence my home

(from _ _ _ _'s pov)

There's a lot like them that have come and gone
but she's the one who latched herself on to my
Mind and now it seems she won't break free, won't cut loose
But to tell you the truth, this clinginess that I was never used to
has got me hooked, but before i continue, let me tell you about her
in the most poetic way i could never that she could.
she's the kind who's not so uptight but shrivels up in uncertain situations
crumpled and crushed into a little fetal ball of adorable, feigned security
while slowly doing her task
at her most beautiful when clumsy and shaking
knife in her hand, she's palpitating afraid to be cut and wary of bleeding
no, she's not soft in the head, she's actually vast and deep
but don't bring her to a hospital floor, she's sure to lose her way
and confuse wing from wing
instead, tell her stories about your stay in hawaii
or how frustrating and aggravating it is that donald trump
wins
yes, she hates math and deplores medicine to the
highest degree but she makes literature her bitch
talk to her about politics and humanities
and observe as she twitches her nervous, fluent lips
while yes, i have been strictly superior and meticulous
many times i have told her to lower her tone
but honestly, i'd give everything to hear that mellifluous
voice at its loudest
and now you're probably wondering why i called this poem
"dispensary girl"
yes it's after the Wax song.
but she's my medicine and corny as it might seem
she cures me of my coldness
with her sunny disposition
but i think there's more to that ebullient flesh
probably a more sensitive, melancholic soul
a little albeit powerful black hole
that seeps all emotions and attacks her at once
nonetheless she'll always be my fantasy, my delusion, my L*D
quirky girl like an upper dispensary.
