Coach Si’s Student Feature: April 💜

Level Up Your Backhand Counter 💥

When your student understands the assignment immediately! 👏 April worked on sharpening her backhand counter, staying compact, reacting quickly, and using the opponent’s pace to send the ball right back with control and confidence.

The goal is simple: less swing, faster hands, better timing. ⚡

Key Tips:

🏓 Stay low and ready with a balanced athletic stance.
🏓 Keep your grip relaxed to stay quick and fluid during fast exchanges.
🏓 Use a short, compact motion, no big backswing.
🏓 Make contact slightly in front of your body.
🏓 Keep a stable paddle face and let the incoming pace do the work.
🏓 Reset quickly after every shot and be ready for the next ball.

Great work today, April! 👏 You understood the assignment right away and got to work. Every repetition builds faster hands, cleaner contact, and more confidence during those quick kitchen exchanges.

💬 How confident are you with your backhand counter? Are you using a compact swing or still taking the paddle too far back? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Coach Si’s Tip of the Day 💜

🏓 8 Must-Try Drills for Better Paddle Feel

Great paddle control starts with learning how to feel the ball, not just hit it. These simple drills will help improve your touch, hand-eye coordination, paddle awareness, and control, skills that translate directly to better d***s, resets, blocks, and fast hands at the kitchen.

Try these 8 drills:

🏓 1. Bounce to Catch – Bounce the ball on your paddle, then soften your hands and catch it on the paddle face. Focus on absorbing the ball instead of letting it bounce away.

🏓 2. Suppressed Catch – Cushion the ball with a relaxed grip and soft hands. Think “receive,” not “hit.”

🏓 3. Air Taps – Keep the ball in the air with controlled taps. Stay relaxed and aim for the same height every time.

🏓 4. Alternating Air Taps – Alternate between the forehand and backhand sides of your paddle while keeping the ball under control.

🏓 5. Edge Guard Taps – Tap the ball using the edge of your paddle. A great challenge for precision, focus, and paddle awareness.

🏓 6. Two-Surface Air Taps – Control the ball using two different paddle surfaces while maintaining a steady rhythm.

🏓 7. Three-Surface Air Taps – Level it up by incorporating three paddle surfaces. Stay smooth and controlled rather than rushing.

🏓 8. Paddle Toss to Suppressed Catch – Toss/rotate the paddle, regain control, then softly catch the ball on the paddle face. Challenge your coordination while keeping those hands relaxed.

💡 Coach Si’s Reminder:
Don’t rush these drills. Start slow, stay relaxed, and focus on clean, controlled touches. The better your paddle feel becomes, the easier it is to control the ball when the game speeds up. 💜

💬 Which of these 8 drills is the hardest for you? Try them and let us know in the comments! 👇

9 days. 25 coaching sessions. So many great moments on the court. 💜

The past nine days have been busy in the best possible way.

Different players. Different personalities. Different goals. Some stepped onto the court wanting to learn the basics, while others came ready to sharpen their game and challenge themselves even more.

And that’s one of the things I enjoy most about coaching, no two sessions are ever the same.

Every player brings something different to the court, which means every lesson gives me another opportunity to listen, adjust, teach, and find the approach that works best for the person in front of me.

Because coaching isn’t just about feeding balls or correcting technique.

It’s about helping players understand why something works. It’s about turning confusion into clarity, hesitation into better decisions, and practice into something they can actually use when the game gets competitive.

Over these 25 sessions, there were plenty of good rallies, breakthroughs, laughs, questions, challenges, and those satisfying moments when something we’ve been working on finally clicks. 🙌

To everyone who spent time on court with me these past nine days, thank you.

Thank you for bringing your energy, your questions, and your willingness to try something new. Whether it was our first session together or one of many, I appreciate every opportunity to be part of your pickleball experience.

25 sessions down, and I’m still looking forward to the next ball I get to feed. 😄🏓

More learning. More rallies. More good times on court.

See you on the court! 💪💜

📖 Pickleball Rules 💜

Every great pickleball player starts with the fundamentals.

Knowing the rules isn't just about avoiding faults, it helps you make smarter decisions, stay in better position, and win more points. Whether you're a beginner or looking to sharpen your game, mastering these essentials will give you a strong foundation every time you step on the court.

🏆 How to Win
Games are typically played to 11 points (win by 2), and only the serving team can score.

🏓 Serving Rules
A legal serve is underhand, both feet stay behind the baseline, and the ball must be served diagonally into the correct service court.

🔄 The Two-Bounce Rule
After the serve, the return must bounce before the serving team hits it. Once both required bounces happen, volleys and groundstrokes are allowed.

🚫 Avoid Common Faults
Don't hit the ball out, into the net, volley before the required bounce, or volley while standing in the Kitchen (Non-Volley Zone).

📍 Know the Court
Understanding the Kitchen, service boxes, sidelines, centerline, and baseline helps improve positioning and reduces unnecessary mistakes.

💡 Remember:
The best players don't just hit harder, they understand the rules, make smart decisions, and play with purpose. Great technique starts with great knowledge.

💬 Which rule do you think beginners struggle with the most?
• Serving correctly?
• The Two-Bounce Rule?
• Staying out of the Kitchen?
• Keeping score?

Coach Si's Tip of the Day 💜

Improve Your Hands with This Drive Block Drill 🏓

A solid block isn't about swinging harder, it's about staying calm, absorbing the pace, and redirecting the ball with control.

Mastering this skill helps you neutralize powerful drives and win more fast-paced kitchen exchanges.

Learn these 3 keys to an effective Drive Block:

🏓 Stay Ready – Keep your paddle up in front of your body with a relaxed grip so you're prepared for every drive.

🏓 Minimal Swing – Let the ball do the work. Keep your motion short and compact to maintain control and consistency.

🏓 Block Out Front – Make contact slightly in front of your body and guide the ball back with a stable paddle face.

Master these fundamentals, stay patient, and you'll turn your opponent's power into your advantage. 💜

Try to Hit Your Backhand Slice D**k Like This to Become an Elite Player 🏓

A great backhand slice d**k isn't just about getting the ball over the net, it helps you control the kitchen, stay patient, and force your opponent to hit up.

Learn these 3 keys to an effective Backhand Slice D**k:

🏓 Knee Behind the Paddle – Stay balanced and position your body behind the shot for better control.

🏓 Bend Your Knees – Get low to stay stable and make cleaner contact with the ball.

🏓 Follow Through Toward the Net – Keep your motion smooth and controlled to produce a soft, accurate d**k.

Master these fundamentals, stay relaxed, and you'll win more kitchen battles! 💜

Another incredible week on the court! 💜

7 days. 23 coaching sessions.

Every week reminds me why I love doing what I do. Meeting new players, helping them improve, and seeing their confidence grow one session at a time makes every hour on the court worth it.

To everyone who joined me for the first time this week, thank you for choosing me to be part of your pickleball journey. Learning a new sport takes courage, and I'm honored to help you build a strong foundation while making the experience fun and rewarding.

To my returning students, thank you for your continued trust. Watching your skills sharpen, your decision-making improve, and your passion for the game grow is the biggest reward any coach could ask for. Progress isn't built in a single session; it's earned through consistency, patience, and the willingness to keep learning.

One lesson I always share is this:

Small improvements every day create big results over time. Keep showing up, keep learning, and never stop enjoying the process.
Thank you to everyone who made this another unforgettable week. I'm excited to continue helping more players build confidence, compete smarter, and fall in love with the game of pickleball.

See you on the court! 💪💜
