If you struggle to start doing research and you need help choosing a new research topic, find "research gaps". This is essential to examine the current state of knowledge and find where further research is needed. These gaps refer to areas in the existing literature with unanswered questions, inconsistencies, contradictions, or limitations.
7 main types of research Gaps:
✅Evidence Gap:
Lack of research evidence in a particular area of study.
✅Knowledge Gap
The knowledge gap is probably the most common gap in prior research. Knowledge may simply not exist in the actual field. Or, results of a study may differ from what was expected.
✅Practical Knowledge Gap
A gap in knowing how to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations.
✅Methodological Gap
A methodological gap is the type of gap that deals with the influence of methodology or used approached on research results.
✅Empirical Gap
An empirical gap is the type of gap that deals with gaps in prior research (lack of studies, lack of data...). The research findings need to be evaluated or empirically verified.
✅Theoretical Gap
The theoretical gap is the type of gap that deals with gaps in theoretical understanding or
conceptual framework of a particular topic or phenomenon.
✅Population Gap
A population gap is a common gap recognized among researchers. This gap concerns groups that have been under-studied. Lack of representation of specific demographic populations, groups or regions.
