Many teachers disagreed because they haven't personally experienced the effectiveness of the phonics approach to teaching reading, specifically Jolly Phonics.

If you master the art of teaching reading to young learners using sounds and blending, I can tell you for a fact that your students will start decoding and reading fluently very early without knowing the name of a single alphabet.

Some people think it is impossible to teach sounds without first teaching letter names. It's not true. You can teach sounds without letter names. Just associate the symbols with the sounds, and you are good to go. When children master the sounds and blending, they hit the ground running.

Teaching alphabets, especially in chronological order, adds nothing significant to learners' reading abilities. Teaching alphabets and later associating sounds with them only makes the journey longer, more complex, and confusing. Some learners reading delay because of this. Build their reading confidence first and teach the alphabets latter.

Postponing the teaching of letter names or alphabets to a later time is the best approach. This sounds different from what you already know but take a moment and think about it.
