Dôho Bo is an engaging online environment of free expression for learners of English Language in Benin. It was created to serve as a support for francophone English Language learners. At some point, someone we know has tried to learn English Language and, unfortunately, stopped along the line. We are here on the streets of social media, beckoning on the timelines of those who should be learning English, waving our tiny hands at them and urging them to take part in one language improvement challenge or the other.
Why Dôho Bo?
As you can see, the name is derived from an expression in Fon (a widely spoken language in Benin) which means “Speak!” It is with a motivated spirit that we urge our learners to action, waiting to help them awaken an enthusiasm in them to finish up their language learning process.
We know it might seem like an irony that we have a name rooted in the local language, yet promote an international language, it is because we understand that every language starts from a familiar place. For example, even an English child will not say a word like ‘incorruptible’ before he learns to say the word ‘mama’. Somewhere in his subconscious, mama is one of the most important words next to anyhow he rumbles out the words that represent ‘food’ for him. It is simple –we are not here to motivate you into learning the longest words in the English dictionary. However, we are here to provide you with a virtual environment where you can learn with ease, everywhere you go. That is where the word "Edutainment" comes in. You will be learning a language spoken by close to 1 billion people worldwide while having the fun of your life at the same time. Sounds great, right? That’s not all! You do not have to sit in a classroom. We are literally there at your finger tips. All you have to do is log on to social media, go to our page and take advantage of the content and activities that other amazing learners are using to improve their language learning skills.
Furthermore, we believe that passing on knowledge makes the teacher more experienced in a chosen field, so we bestow the opportunity to join our diverse community and help contribute to the education of the nation on English speakers across the country. We count on them to listen out for common errors and report them promptly so that they can be included in our content.
We understand how culture is related to language, and we know, most importantly, that you have to keep in touch with your own language first, before learning a foreign one. So, we got you covered. We know how tongue-twisting it could be to make sounds that are not familiar to your speech organs and are prepared to help you navigate every difficult pronunciation till you speak like a pro.
We do all of these because we realize that a knowledge of English language will help you push your dreams many steps further and open up your hands to grab new opportunities.
Welcome, dear friend! Dôho Bo!
Just that, this time around, do it in English.
Cheers!
–Trust Tonji
