• (4) Mennonite Central Committee- MCC USA / CANADA)
GLPI intervenes through 3 main programs, namely:
a) The Peacebuilding Institute
Founded in 2004, the Great Lakes Peacebuilding Institute (formerly GLPS) is among the leading institutes
in training peace practitioners in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa (Burundi, Rwanda, Eastern DRC). Putting tools into the hands of francophone peace practitioners working in conflict analysis, mediation,
conflict transformation, and trauma healing in this region has been the vision of GLPI since its creation. The institute brings together an experienced international faculty and dedicated peace practitioners
in the Great Lakes region for a stimulating opportunity to learn, network, share best practices,
and encourage each other.Currently, the Institute involves a one-month intensive training program
in October consisting of four modules. Candidates who are working in the field of peacebuilding and
wish to strengthen their skills are invited to apply to this hands-on, practical and theoretical
approach to peace practice. b) Support for the Laureates' Initiatives:
After the training, the laureates organize themselves locally in structures
(chapiters) through which they initiate actions for peace in their localities. It is through these structures that GLPI continues to support their initiatives. Several structures already exist in Burundi, Rwanda and the DRC. The GLPI alumni network is currently made up of 450 experienced practitioners from
peacebuilding in the Great Lakes region and beyond. Depending on the area of expertise,
GLPI laureates serve as mentors to support young peacemakers. C) Research and publications:
The GLPI in collaboration with its professors, partners, laureates and other universities of
peace conducts research on various topics related to peace and conflict, designs
training modules and other publications on the testimonies and experiences of peacemakers.
