🔴🛥 Modernization of the port of Bujumbura: La JICA vient de rémettre au presidente les premiers infrastructure es

The Head of State Evariste Ndayishimiye held a ceremony on Wednesday 9 October 2024, at the Port of Bujumbura, at the official reception of the work on the modernization of port infrastructures built under the technical and financial support of Japan through the Japanese Cooperation Agency International .

🔹These infrastructures are notably constituted by a control and repair building for broken down ships, from neighboring countries. This building is also equipped with machines (cranes and rails), which facilitate a large number of boats, up to 400 boats.

🔹On note also of other infrastructures arranged near the Lake, in order to level the rising waters of Lake Tanganyika that negatively impact port activities.

🔹Ces infrastructures were handed over by the Ambassador of Japan to Burundi M. Isao FUKUSHIMA, in the presence of the Vice-President of JICA M. Ando Naoki. Les deux personnalités ont expressed the need to revive other projects in the country, such as the construction of certain road axes in Bujumbura.

The Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ of Muyaga in Cankuzo is the first parish in Burundi. It dates back to May 23, 1898, thus embodying the baptismal font of the Catholic Church of Burundi.

The first Catholic missionaries, entering from the East of Burundi, first settled in Misugi in the commune of Cendajuru where they erected the first cross “Croix de Misugi”, as a sign of the beginning of evangelization in Burundi. This is where they celebrated the first Christmas and named this place “Bethlehem of Burundi”.

As the place was not populated, these white missionaries continued their journey to Muyaga where they founded the first parish in Burundi. It was in this parish that the first Easter celebration in Burundi took place, hence the name “Muyaga, Jerusalem of Burundi”. It is also Muyaga that has the first School of Burundi, in 1907, as well as the first Health Center, built by these white missionaries.

In April 2022, the Burundian Head of State His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye visited the Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ on this hill of Muyaga, a place not only sacred but also touristic with splendid architecture, characterized by all the monuments that help Christians to relive or imagine certain biblical places to understand the holy scriptures.

We could mention in particular the Fleet of the Prophet Elijah, the Tomb of Jesus Christ, the Temples of Jesus Christ, Moses and Elijah, etc.
