🎥 A glimpse into Day 1 (15.07.2026) of our Dinamic Danube Study Visit in Varna!🌿
We're excited to share the first short video from our three-day journey in Varna, capturing some of the inspiring moments, conversations, and experiences that shaped the beginning of our study visit.
💙 A very special thank you to Alexandra Nikolova, who was with us throughout all three days, documenting every discussion, visit, and interaction. Through her creativity and talent, she transformed these moments into beautiful videos that truly capture the spirit of our exchange and the energy of the group.
Although small in numbers, our group was united by curiosity, openness, and a shared commitment to learning from one another.
🌱 Day 1 focused on two inspiring initiatives that demonstrate innovative approaches to sustainable regional development.
🍷 Our morning began with Odesos Winery and ВарнаWINEkend VarnaWINEkend festival, presented by its founder, Vladislav Vankov. What started in July 2016 as a small event featuring just ten Bulgarian wineries has grown into one of Bulgaria's most distinctive wine festivals. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, VarnaWINEkend now welcomes more than 30 wineries from across the country in the beautiful courtyard of the Archaeological Museum of Varna, complemented by cultural performances, local food producers, an art market, and a theme inspired by Varna's art scene.
The founders have often shared that the festival was born from a simple but ambitious idea: to create something new and exciting outside the capital and to introduce young Bulgarian winemakers to a wider audience. Today, it stands as a remarkable example of how a regional initiative can grow into a nationally recognised event. We were delighted that our international experts had the opportunity to experience the opening day (17.07) of this special anniversary edition.
🌿 Our second session explored the topic of urban gardening through the inspiring work of Humana People to People Bulgaria. Elena Kuleva, PR & CSR Manager, presented the 3C – Cultivate Community and Climate initiative, which has been successfully developing urban gardening in Varna for the past seven years.
The project demonstrates how circular economy principles, environmental responsibility, and community engagement can be successfully combined into a sustainable model with tangible local impact. A key focus was the 3C Garden, established in 2019 on the outskirts of Varna. Over the years, it has become much more than a place to grow seasonal fruits and vegetables—it is a community where people of different ages, professions, and backgrounds come together to learn, collaborate, and reconnect with nature. More than 80 participants have taken part in the programme so far, with 35 active volunteers currently cultivating approximately 2.2 tonnes of vegetables annually, using sustainable practices such as composting, biodiversity conservation, and responsible resource management.
🚜 The day concluded with a visit to the 3C Garden, where, together with the project's agronomist and gardeners, we learned about the daily work behind the initiative, its achievements and challenges, and—most importantly—the strong sense of community it has created. It was an inspiring reminder that sustainable development is not only about innovative ideas but also about the people who bring them to life.
