Severe gingival recessions in the mandibular anterior region and polyp removal.
▪️Initial situation
24-year-old female patient presenting with severe gingival recessions associated with hypersensitivity and plaque accumulation in the mandibular anterior region.
A fibro-epithelial polyp located between teeth #42 and #43 had been excised previously.
▪️Main challenge
Achieving root coverage while increasing soft tissue attachment and long-term stability.
▪️Surgical approach
Tunnel technique combined with a connective tissue graft harvested from the palate.
Tunnel was partially laterally closed.
Partial intentional graft exposure at sites #32 and #42 to promote keratinized tissue gain.
▪️Postoperative outcome
Significant increase in gingival keratinized tissue width, with complete root coverage and resolution of hypersensitivity.

We are proud to announce that our PETAL project has received the EKLUND grant.

Alzheimer’s disease currently affects more than 50 million people worldwide, with limited access to effective therapeutic options.

Periodontitis is a common and treatable chronic inflammatory condition.

The PETAL project is a randomized controlled trial investigating whether treating periodontitis may help slow cognitive decline and reduce neuroinflammation in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

Conducted at the CHU de Liège and the University of Liège, this study lies at the intersection of dentistry and medicine, aiming to better understand the relationship between oral health and neurodegeneration.

If the results are positive, this research could contribute to meaningful advances in both national and international healthcare perspectives.
