Meet our speaker: Ulrika Casselbrant 🇸🇪

We are delighted to welcome Ulrika Casselbrant from Sweden to the European Baby Carrying Conference 2027 in Budapest 🇭🇺

Ulrika is a baby carrying consultant, Certified Breastfeeding Specialist and author. She also works in neonatal care at Karolinska University Hospital, where she is involved in education, quality improvement, and the development of breastfeeding and feeding support.

Her special interests include Kangaroo Care, Family-Centered Care, infant communication and the many ways in which touch supports connection between babies and their caregivers.

At EBC 2027, Ulrika will present “Connection Through Touch”, exploring skin-to-skin contact, baby carrying and in-arms carrying through the perspectives of connection, breastfeeding, elimination communication and babies’ subtle communication.

And there is more: Ulrika will also join us for a special conversation around her book Babywearing and In-arms Carrying.

Perceiving Together within the Environment: Holding and Onbu in Japan and the Infant’s Entry into Society

What does a baby experience when being carried?

In Japan, onbu, the traditional high back carry, has long been part of everyday life, allowing childcare, work and daily activities to happen together. Different regions developed their own carrying tools, shaped by local life, environment and traditions.

At EBC 2027, Masayo Sonoda will explore Japanese holding and onbu through the perspective of ecological psychology.

Drawing on 24-hour observations of families and motion analysis of different carrying tools, she will look at how carrying shapes the relationship between the infant, the caregiver and their shared environment.

One particularly fascinating aspect of onbu is the experience of “looking the same way”: from high on the caregiver’s back, the infant can perceive the world from a viewpoint closely connected to the caregiver’s own movements and attention.

Masayo’s research invites us to think of the baby not simply as someone who is being carried, but as an active participant, perceiving, moving and engaging with the world together with others.

In this sense, baby carrying can be much more than a means of transport. It can become part of an infant’s first step into society: discovering a world shared with other people and beginning to take part in it.

Meet our first EBC 2027 speaker: Masayo Sonoda 🇯🇵

We are very happy to begin introducing the people who will be joining us in Budapest for the European Baby Carrying Conference 2027. 🇭🇺🇪🇺

Masayo Sonoda is the founder and director of Hokkyoku Shirokumado, established in 2000 to provide tools and information for holding and carrying infants, and President of the Japan Baby Carrying Institute, which she has led since its founding in 2010.

Alongside more than two decades of professional practice, Masayo studies holding and back carrying (onbu) from the perspective of ecological psychology. She completed her M.A. at the University of Tokyo and is currently continuing her research there while preparing her doctoral dissertation.

Masayo has been presenting internationally on baby carrying since 2006, including at conferences in the USA and the UK.

We are delighted to welcome her to EBC 2027 in Budapest! 🇭🇺

And this is only the beginning. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing more of the people who will make EBC 2027 a truly international meeting of the baby carrying community.

EBC 2027 is coming to Budapest! 🇭🇺

On 7–8 May 2027, baby carrying professionals from across Europe and beyond will come together in Budapest for two days of learning, sharing, connecting and exploring baby carrying from different professional perspectives.

Expect inspiring lectures, hands-on workshops, professional discussions, book launches, exhibitors, and plenty of opportunities to meet and exchange ideas with colleagues from different countries.

EBC 2027 is about more than listening to lectures. It is about bringing together the knowledge, experience and perspectives of the European baby carrying community, learning from each other and creating new professional connections.

And this time, we get to do all of that in Budapest. ❤️

Over the coming weeks, we will introduce our speakers, workshops and programme, and show you a little of the city that will be welcoming us next May.

Tegnap meglátogattuk a Heim Pál Kórház Gyermekortopédiáján Dr. Cs. Frank László főorvos urat és egy igazán értékes szakmai beszélgetésben volt részünk.

Beszélgettünk a babahordozásról, annak ortopédiai szempontjairól, a gyakori tévhitekről, valamint arról, hogyan lehet a családokat hiteles és árnyalt információkkal támogatni.

Külön öröm számunkra, hogy a beszélgetés itt nem ér véget: a doktor úr elfogadta a felkérésünket, és előadóként is találkozhattok majd vele az Európai Babahordozó Konferencián.
