Exactly one year ago, I launched Classy Mandarin, and went public with my vision for teaching Mandarin.
I chose this path not just because I am a native speaker with a linguistic degree and teaching background, but because I’ve worked in high-stakes corporate environments…
I witnessed firsthand the massive gap between Mandarin that is technically correct and Mandarin that is culturally connected.
And I want to help pro learners to bridge this gap and master High-stakes communication.

You don’t attract what you WANT, you attract who you ARE.
圈子不同,不必强融 (Quān zi bù tóng, bù bì qiáng róng)
If your circles differ, don’t force a fit.
磁场相同,终会相逢 (Cí cháng xiāng tóng, zhōng huì xiāng féng )
If your vibes align, you will eventually find one another.

What’s the most difficult Chinese Pinyin for you?
Is it the Retroflex? Like Zhi, Chi, Shi, Zi, Ci, Si? Ri?
For most advanced learners I work with, these are the Retroflex: 卷舌音.
I put together a simplified guide to help you finally nail them.
No fluff, no annoying background music, and no distractions: just pure, focused sound drills and high-level idioms to get you sounding like a local.
Drill them and nail them in one go: simplified guide on my podcast! Link below in the comments.

Stop Saying “Nǐ Hǎo Ma” to Everyone! 🛑
If you’re learning Chinese, 你好吗 (nǐ hǎo ma) is likely the first phrase you mastered. But in real life, using it can be a total minefield.
In English, “How are you?” is a casual, throwaway greeting. In Mandarin, it’s a heavy, soul-searching question. Texting it to a crush or an ex at 2 AM? Don’t. Unless you want to look like you’re starring in a tragic C-drama, standing in the rain and questioning the depths of their soul.
So, when is it actually appropriate to use? And more importantly, what should you say instead to sound like a local?
I’m breaking down the native shortcuts and daily greetings you actually need in the comments below!
