What happens to sustainability once a project moves from planning to delivery—and eventually reaches closure? 🌱📋
In many projects, sustainability is mentioned at the beginning as an important ambition. But as deadlines, budgets, scope pressures, and daily responsibilities take over, it can easily lose visibility.
The new SPM² Sustainability Management Plan helps prevent that.
As a dedicated SPM² artefact, it turns sustainability into a structured part of project governance. It helps teams identify sustainability impacts, assign clear responsibilities, define review points, monitor actions, escalate issues when needed, and connect sustainability considerations with risks, changes, deliverables, and decisions. 🔍
It also supports long-term accountability through the Sustainability Impact Log and by ensuring that responsibilities continuing beyond project closure are formally transferred.
Because sustainability should not exist next to project management—it should be integrated into how projects are planned, monitored, governed, and closed. ♻️

This group tends to prioritize conventional project success metrics, such as time, scope, and budget, while ESG integration is still seen as emerging or less directly embedded in everyday project work.

For this reason, Traditionalists may benefit most from introductory sustainability awareness, ESG basics, and practical first steps that show how sustainability can be integrated into project management without replacing core project priorities.

The SPM² project highlights the importance of tailored training approaches, ensuring that different professional profiles receive the right type of support for developing sustainable project management competencies.
