🌱 How can students build personalized career pathways while developing sustainability-focused project management skills?
Through a recent university workshop, Career Office staff, academic advisors, educators, and student support professionals explored the BE(A)ST approach and its connection with the SPM² project. 🎓
The session introduced tools such as self-reflection, gap analysis, and the Occupation Business Model Canvas, showing how they can support competence development, sustainable project management education, and future micro-qualification opportunities. 🧩
SPM² was presented as an Erasmus+ initiative supporting sustainability competencies, professional education, and alignment with the EU Green Deal and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 🇪🇺

How do organisations move from environmental requirements to real sustainability action? 🌱
A recent training session explored exactly that — covering BDO, KOBIZE, circular economy, ESG, and CBAM, while giving participants practical tools and examples they can apply in their own organisations.
The session also introduced SPM², our project focused on integrating sustainability into project management through the PM² Methodology. It was great to see such strong interest in the project and in the tools being developed to strengthen sustainability competences in project work 🚀

Can sustainability skills be built in small, practical steps? 🌱
Long training programmes aren’t always realistic for busy project professionals. But sustainability competence can’t be treated as an add-on either.
In our latest blog, we explore how micro-credentials and digital badges can help organisations build green project skills in a modular, flexible, and role-based way — fully aligned with the PM² methodology.
💡 The focus:
• Learning that connects directly to real project tasks
• Stackable modules instead of one long course
• Practical assessments and recognised credentials
• Skills that can be applied immediately in EU-funded and public sector projects
SPM² is working to make sustainability competence structured, scalable, and real — not just theoretical.

🌱 SPM² in action: Sustainable Project Management for Young People and a cross-project clustering session that connected the dots
Projects shape the world around us — so the way we manage them matters. Through the Educational Programme on Sustainable Project Management for Young People, participants explored what it really means to plan and deliver projects with sustainability at the core, not as a checkbox, but as a mindset and a practical skill.
The programme introduced the shift from traditional project delivery toward impact-aware, value-oriented project management, grounded in regenerative thinking. Participants worked with practical frameworks such as the P5 model and PRiSM, and then applied the concepts through guided teamwork using the P5 Sustainable Project Canvas 🧩🤝
One of the most valuable elements was a dedicated cross-project clustering session, linking SPM² with other EU-funded initiatives (ESG4PMChange, GreenTech Horizons, and ESDG). This helped participants see how different projects contribute to the same bigger picture — and how sustainability can be embedded through real project roles, decisions, tools, and governance 🔗🌍
The result? An engaging learning experience with strong participation, hands-on practice, and plenty of meaningful discussion and networking 💬✨ Certificates were awarded to acknowledge participants’ commitment and active involvement 🏅

Projects aren’t just about outputs anymore — they’re becoming engines of long-term value. 🌍🚀✨
And the key driver of next-generation project practice is increasingly clear: knowledge. 📚💡
In our new SPM² blog post, Goran Lalić & Marijana Topo explain why sustainable project management can’t rely on experience alone. Today’s project teams must navigate:
🌱 ESG and sustainability expectations
⚖️ ethics and transparency
🌡️ climate risks and long-term impact
🤝 complex stakeholder environments
💻 digital transformation and new technologies
That’s why learning is becoming a strategic advantage — helping professionals apply sustainability in real decisions, avoid superficial “green” actions, and lead projects with responsibility and meaning. ✨🌿

🌱 What do project management professionals need to grow in a sustainability-driven world?

Insights from the SPM² Industry Survey (WP2) show a clear pattern:
sustainability competencies are widely recognized as essential - yet many professionals still lack confidence in applying them across the project lifecycle.

Based on feedback from nearly 1,000 professionals across sectors, the SPM² project highlights key takeaways for career development:

✔️ Invest in targeted upskilling through short courses, certifications, and micro-credentials
✔️ Apply lifecycle sustainability thinking - especially during planning and ex*****on
✔️ Act as a sustainability champion, even when formal roles don’t exist
✔️ Strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration for more resilient project outcomes
✔️ Engage in professional networks to exchange practices and shape ESG standards in project management

These insights directly inform the development of the SPM² Guide, professional profiles, and micro-credential framework, ensuring they reflect real industry needs - not theory alone.
