The European Schoolnet Academy is a professional development platform focusing on innovation in the school and classroom, offering free massive open online courses (MOOCs) for teachers in primary and secondary schools. The courses offered on this platform are completely free of charge. They provide an introduction to key concepts and ideas that are relevant to developing innovative teaching practice and offer the opportunity to discuss these ideas and share experiences with peers. Concepts and ideas are illustrated through examples from everyday classroom practice. At the core of the courses stands the exchange between teaching practitioners and the creation of an online community of professionals who reflect on and exchange about the course topics. The European Schoolnet Academy sits alongside European Schoolnet’s other projects, converting the content and expertise developed in these projects and activities, together with its Ministries of Education, into massive open online courses for teachers. As AI becomes part of everyday teaching, educators need support to develop new knowledge, skills, and professional judgement. At the same time, we need to rethink how teacher learning is recognised and assessed so it reflects authentic practice. Across Europe, there’s growing discussion about how assessment can better capture this kind of learning. The European Schoolnet Academy’s latest thematic seminar opened the conversation and our new report brings together perspectives from different systems and schools.
