European Citizens' Initiative - we want YOU to make history! European Citizen’s Initiative - we want YOU to make history! Thank you all for your support!

Some motivated young Europeans have worked hard to register the European Citizen’s Initiative (ECI) called “More Than Education - Shaping Active and Responsible Citizens”. Civic education means learning critical thought, political participation and open-mindedness. Teaching this at school is crucial for a healthy society but in many European countries civic education is insufficient. Indeed, many

Our ECI "More than Education - Shaping Active and Responsible Citizens" has ended on the 6th of October 2017, one year after its registration.

We didn't reach the threshold of 1 million signatures, but we approached the initiative as a learning process. We set up a lot of small initiatives into the bigger frame of this ECI, making the whole AEGEE-network familiar with the ECI tool and raising awareness about the importance of civic education. We documented this process and the obstacles we faced and gave our input in the European Commission's public consultation on the ECI revision. We will continue to give our input to the improvement of the ECI as a tool.

Conference "More than an Initiative - the Future of the ECI" 28/10/2017

The conference "More than an Initiative - The Future of the ECI" was a success. We had interesting and fruitful debates regarding the questions 'how to make the ECI more appealing, accessible and impactful', with the European Commission's proposal on the ECI revision as a starting point.

The conference marked the closing of our ECI.

Our "Travelling Tablets"-competition ended on September 27 during AEGEE's general assembly (Agora) in Catania. All locals which collected signatures for our ECI with the tablets had the chance to win our prize: a VIP-package including morning massage, food and some presents. The lucky winner was AEGEE-León, congratulations!
Many thanks also to all the others who contributed!
