CoE Alumni Women is a thematic group under the umbrella of the Alumni Association of the College of Europe. Join Us!

We are a network of young professionals who are keen on advancing gender equality in the workplace, as well as creating career opportunities for CoE alumnae. To do that, we aim to offer mentorship programmes and workshops, organise debates and create links with other established networks in Brussels, Europe and beyond. This inclusive initiative is founded by a group of Falcone & Borsellino alumnae (2014-2015). We think there is still a clear need and demand to tackle gender bias. Studies show that when equally qualified male and female candidates apply for a job, managers are much more likely to hire the man. In turn, men are also more likely to obtain top jobs. Only 29% of EU parliamentary members are women. In business, the figures are equally disappointing and only 23% of board members are women. Do you think it is time for a change? The Group’s guiding principles are inclusiveness and openness to debate. We are interested in meeting and involving all the CoE alumni that are eager to work with us on advancing the common goals. Your contribution is essential, allowing us to integrate different perspectives and sectors to our activities and foster a comprehensive understanding of women empowerment through mapping current needs and challenges and addressing them systematically through our activities. Our first ‘call for interest’ and mingling meeting will take place on 29 June 2016 (at the premises of the Alumni Association, & Place de Londres), which will feed into the core activities of the Group, foster common understandings and new friendships, strengthening the legendary ‘esprit du Collège’. An official launch event will follow in September 2016. Many thanks to all of you who joined us last night to share views with our alumnus Mr. Xavier Prats Monné, Director General of DG Sante, on why it is important to get men involved when discussing gender equality in the workplace.

This has been an inspiring and constructive discussion, and we thank you all for the positive spirit and the openness to the debate!
