Stand up! Our ocean is being stripped of life. And for what? β¨ short-term profit β¨
93% of European seas are under pressure from overfishing and pollution. And instead of fixing it, destructive industries are trying to tear down the laws that protect us π
Because short-term profit > our ocean, our food, our future apparently.
Where ocean conservation is enforced, fish recover, waters clear, coastal communities thrive. The science is there - the laws work!

πExciting news!
Weβre thrilled to welcome Ignace Schops, a Belgian conservationist and director of the NGO Regionaal Landschap Kempen en Maasland (RLKM) as a new ambassador for the Jane Goodall Institute Belgium.
He met Jane Goodall for the first time at the IUCN World Parks Congress in Sydney in 2014 and was the Master of Ceremonies during the Gala with Jane in Brussels in 2022.
With his team, they established Hoge Kempen National Park in 2006, the first national park in Belgium. In 2008, he received the Goldman Environmental Prize and was honoured in 2013 by King Philippe as Commander in the Order of the Crown of Belgium.
He is also the author of the book "Saved by the Tree Frog: A Bright Future for People and Nature" (2022).
We are honoured to have Ignace on our team, inspiring others and helping us spread the work of Dr Jane Goodall π

πΈ Belgian Tree of the Month: Apricot (Prunus armeniaca) πΈ
Known for its beautiful spring blossoms and delicious golden-orange fruits, the apricot tree has been cultivated for thousands of years and remains a favourite in gardens and orchards across Europe. ππ³
Blooming before its leaves appear, the apricot provides an early source of nectar for bees and other pollinators. Its fruits are enjoyed by both people and wildlife, making it a valuable tree for biodiversity.
β¨ Fun fact: The apricot is the national fruit of Armenia, and its wood is traditionally used to make the duduk, a unique Armenian musical instrument.

π΅ Meet Nina
Nina is one of the 33 rescued chimpanzees who found safety at Chimp Eden.
Like many others, she was saved from illegal wildlife trade and captivity. Today, she finally has a home where she can live in safety, surrounded by other chimpanzees.
But this home now needs your helpβΌοΈ
Parts of the sanctuary urgently need renovation to continue providing a safe and caring environment for Nina and the other rescued chimpanzees.
π Your donation helps protect what matters most: their safety, their dignity, and their future.
π Support this project via the King Baudouin Foundation link and benefit from a 30% tax reduction for donations of β¬40 or more.
Together, we can make sure Chimp Eden remains a true sanctuary for those who have already lost so much.

π World Ocean Day 2026
The ocean covers more than 70% of our planet, regulates our climate, produces much of the oxygen we breathe, supports incredible biodiversity, and sustains communities around the world. Yet it remains under increasing pressure.
This year's theme, "Strong Marine Protected Areas for Our Blue Planet," is a call to turn promises into action. π
World leaders have committed to protecting at least 30% of our oceans by 2030, including the High Seas; vast waters that cover nearly half of Earth's surface and play a critical role in the health of our planet.
But commitments alone are not enough. Turning ambition into action will require collaboration, accountability, and public engagement.
Now it's time to make it happen. By creating and strengthening Marine Protected Areas, we can restore ecosystems, protect wildlife, and build a healthier future for generations to come. ππ π’
The ocean connects us all, whether we live by the coast or hundreds of miles inland. Its protection is a shared responsibility. π

World Environment Day 2026 - Now For Climate!
The planet is speaking to us. Through rising temperatures, wildfires, droughts, melting glaciers, and extreme weather, nature is sending clear signals and itβs on us to listen to her. We said 1.5Β°C was the limit. We are crossing it.
But there is hope. Around the world, people are restoring forests π³, embracing renewable energy βοΈ, protecting ecosystems πΎ, and proving that change is possible.
This World Environment Day is a reminder that climate action is for all of us. Through the choices we make, the voices we raise, and the future we choose to build together. π±
β¨ The Earth is sending us an urgent message. The question is: how will we answer?

For too long, we've lived as if we were separate from nature, taking more than we give back.
Yet we remain entirely dependent on healthy ecosystems for our food, water, air, and well-being. π
Reconnecting with nature means rethinking how we live. It means choosing lifestyles that work with the environment, not against it. It means remembering that we are part of a larger web of life, one that supports us every day and that we must support in return. π±
Nature thrives on balance. If we want a sustainable future, it's time to restore that balance through the choices we make, the habits we adopt, and the respect we show for the living world around us.
Because saving the planet starts with remembering that we belong to it. πβ¨

Dr. Jane Goodall taught us that each of us makes a difference every single day. In her honor, we're kicking off a 365 Days of Compassion challenge, and we're inviting you to join.
How it works: Each month, we'll post a list of small actions you can take throughout the month to spread compassion in your community and help people, other animals, and the environment. π
Then, if you'd like, you can share stories of your impact on social media using the hashtag and tagging us so that you can inspire others.
