Beyond the Classroom, Into the Community. ❤️

The Department of English continues its regular humanitarian initiatives, reaching communities where support is needed most.

This time, our team travelled to Paomum Tharkla Primary School (পাওমুম থার্কলা প্রাইমারী স্কুল), located in a remote and difficult-to-access hilly area of Lama, Bandarban, to provide general medicines and educational supplies for the students and the local community.

We were joined by one of our English alumni, now working at Dhaka Tribune, and a dedicated MBBS student from Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka. The initiative was also supported by The South Asian Story (www.thesouthasianstory.org), reflecting our shared commitment to communities and stories that often remain beyond the mainstream.

The journey was difficult, but some places are worth reaching—and some responsibilities go beyond the classroom. We believe education is not only about knowledge; it is also about empathy, responsibility, and standing beside people who need us.

🌸Some conversations should not end when the event ends-Galda Verlag, Germany is now the official publication partner for The Dhaka Dialogics: Session 1🌸

With The Dhaka Dialogics: Session 1, we are trying to create precisely that kind of conversation around Saadat Hasan Manto—one that moves from Partition to memory, from literary dissent to the uneasy questions that still inhabit the South Asian present.

We are therefore delighted to have Galda Verlag join Manto Beyond Borders: Partition, Memory and South Asia’s Unfinished Present as our Publication Partner.

For us, this partnership matters because the ideas exchanged on 30 September are not being imagined as one-day interventions. We hope to carry selected written contributions beyond the event, develop them through an editorial process, and place them in a more lasting scholarly conversation, subject to the publisher’s review and publication procedures.

Manto remains difficult to contain within a nation, a historical moment, or even a single critical vocabulary. That is exactly why we are returning to him now.
