IQAC, UIU Hosts Day-Long Faculty Development Programme on Outcome-Based Education (OBE)

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of United International University (UIU) successfully organized a full-day Faculty Development Programme on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) for the School of Science and Engineering (SoSE) 3 November 2025 at the UIU campus. The initiative aimed to strengthen faculty expertise in implementing OBE and ensuring globally aligned, student-centred teaching and learning practices.

Professor Dr. Md. Tarek Uddin, Peng, from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), attended the programme as the Guest of Honour and delivered the keynote address. Senior UIU faculty members - Prof. Dr. Hasan Sarwar, Dean of SoSE; Prof. Dr. AKM Muzahidul Islam, CSE; Prof. Dr. Kaled Masukur Rahman, Head of EEE; and Dr. Sadid Muneer, Associate Professor, EEE conducted the training sessions.

The sessions covered essential aspects of OBE, including CO-PO mapping, Complex Engineering Problems (CEP), OBE-based teaching-learning-assessment strategies, and the efficient use of UCAM for OBE implementation.

In his remarks, Dr. Tarek emphasized OBE’s role in shifting from content-based education to performance-based learning, aligning with international frameworks such as the Washington Accord and BAETE accreditation.

Dr. Mofijul Hoq Masum, FCMA, Associate Professor, AIS, SoBE, and Director of IQAC, highlighted UIU’s continued commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement in higher education.

Faculty participants shared insights and expressed strong support for advancing OBE practices across the university. UIU remains dedicated to promoting academic excellence and preparing students to meet national and global challenges.

Faculty Induction Program, Summer 2023

IQAC, UIU organized an Induction Program on 10th July 2023 for the newly joined faculty members. A total of 22 faculty members from Pharmacy and CSE departments attended the program. The topic included HR policy and publication criteria, teaching methodology, and different IT services. Resource persons were the director of IQAC Prof. Dr. Salekul Islam, Prof. A.S.M. Salahuddin Director (Coordination) & Treasurer (In-charge), Prof. Dr. Swakkhar Shatabda, Director of Data Science Program, Mrs. Nargis Jahan, Exam Controller and Mr. Hamudi Hasan, Programmer, CITS. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of United International University(UIU) has got the approval for the first ever undergraduate program in Data Science in Bangladesh. Data Science has emerged as the top discipline globally in recent years and is very crucial for the transformation towards smart Bangladesh.

The department has already established high performance GPU enabled computing facilities that are required for the program to run successfully in addition to the regular laboratories and other facilities. This department has got the best pool of faculty members in the country now with academic degrees, expertise and experiences in machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, robotics and their application areas like bioinformatics, medical sciences, precision agriculture, epidemiology, finance, social media analytics, natural language processing, satellite imaging, remote sensing, health informatics, business and marketing. The curriculum has been developed with input taken from national and international academic and industrial experts in the relevant fields. The classes for the newly approved program will start from Fall 2023 semester. The department wants to work closely with the industry and government and play a pivotal role in the national transition towards Industrial Revolution 4.0.
