Seminar Reflection | Career Opportunity after Graduation

On 20 July 2026, the SUST Centre for Economics Studies (CES) successfully organized a seminar titled "Career Opportunity after Graduation", featuring Mr. Sayed Arafat Zubayer as the keynote speaker.

The session was truly insightful and engaging. For nearly three hours, every participant remained attentive, listening with great interest as the speaker shared his valuable experiences, practical guidance, and realistic perspectives on career planning for economics graduates.

The seminar covered a wide range of important topics, including:

The importance of maintaining a strong CGPA while actively participating in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

Why networking is an essential part of career development and how students should build meaningful professional connections.

Diverse career opportunities, including:

Academic and research institutions (BIDS, BIGD, SANEM, CPD, BIISS, BIGM, RAPID, etc.)

Bangladesh Bank (AD) and other Grade-9 government positions

Data Analyst and Credit Analyst roles

Leading private organizations such as bKash, Grameenphone, Banglalink, Robi, Coca-Cola Bangladesh, US-Bangla Airlines, and many more.

Preparing for higher studies abroad, including:

Building a strong academic CV (Word/LaTeX)

IELTS and GRE preparation

Developing a writing sample through seminar papers, term papers, or research proposals

Selecting universities strategically

Writing an effective Statement of Purpose (SOP)

The significance of preparing early by:

Focusing on the first two years of undergraduate studies

Engaging with at least one student organization or club

Creating a professional LinkedIn profile and CV

Finalizing career goals before the later semesters

Obtaining a passport early

Gaining internship experience

Maintaining professional connections, especially with opportunities in Dhaka.

A thought-provoking discussion on several contemporary issues, including:

Is networking a myth?

Should research begin during undergraduate studies?

Quantitative vs. policy research

The role of Artificial Intelligence in future careers

Will AI replace human professionals?

Master's in Bangladesh or abroad?

Estimated costs of pursuing higher studies overseas.

The interactive question-and-answer session further enriched the event, allowing students to clarify their concerns regarding research, higher education, and career planning.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to our respected guest speaker, Mr. Sayed Arafat Zubayer, for dedicating his valuable time and sharing his knowledge, experiences, and practical insights with us. His guidance has undoubtedly inspired many students to prepare more strategically for their future careers.

Finally, sincere thanks to everyone who participated and contributed to making this seminar a remarkable success. We hope this marks the beginning of many more impactful academic and career-oriented initiatives by the SUST Centre for Economics Studies (CES).

Together, let us prepare today for the opportunities of tomorrow.

★Economics Career Opportunities After Graduation ★

Assalamu Alaikum!

Many of us have already completed our 4th, 5th or 6th semester, yet one important question still remains:

What comes after graduation?

Should you pursue higher studies, build a career in research, prepare for the government or corporate sector, or explore opportunities in the development sector? More importantly, how should you start preparing today?

To help answer these questions, "SUST Centre for Economics Study" is pleased to organize a special seminar:

Career Opportunities After Graduation

🎙 Speaker: Syed Arafat Jubayer (29th Batch)

He has worked with some of Bangladesh's leading research organizations, including SANEM, BIDS, and CPD, and also served as a Research Assistant at the SUST Research Centre. He is set to begin his fully funded PhD at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on 4 August.

In this session, he will share insights on:

★Career opportunities after graduation
★ Building a career in research
★Preparing for the development sector
★Higher studies and fully funded scholarship opportunities
★ Essential skills, planning, and practical preparation

Whether you're still exploring your options or already planning your next step, this seminar will provide valuable guidance from someone who has successfully navigated the journey.

📌 We warmly invite all students to join us on time and make the most of this opportunity.

We look forward to seeing you there!
