Tea Plays an Important Role in Strengthening Bangladesh-China Relations: Cultural Counsellor, Chinese Embassy

Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, Li Shaopeng, said that tea is playing an important role in strengthening the friendly relations between Bangladesh and China. He made this remark while speaking as the Guest of Honour at a seminar titled “Tea and the World: Elegant Gathering”, organized by the Embassy of People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Corner of the Department of Political Studies at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Saturday, May 16, at 10:00 AM.

Li Shaopeng said, “Tea is not merely a beverage; it is a symbol of friendship, mutual respect, and people-to-people connection between Bangladesh and China. In Chinese civilization, tea represents harmony, patience, wisdom, and human connection. Through tea culture, generations have learned the values of peace, respect, and balance in life.”

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr. A M Sarwar Uddin Chowdhury, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Special guests included Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Sajedul Karim, Professor Dr. Zayeda Sharmin of the Department of Political Studies, Director of the International Office Professor Dr. Md. Monirul Islam, and Professor Dr. Md. Iftekhar Ahmad of the Department of Food Engineering and Tea Technology (FET).

The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Head of the Department of Political Studies. At the beginning of the program, guests were welcomed by Professor Dr. Md. Shahabul Haque, Coordinator of the Chinese Corner. Greetings were also delivered by Professor Dr. Zayeda Sharmin. Later, the event was hosted by students Md. Arman Hossain Emon and Most. Ikra Sultana.

During the seminar, Dr. Yang Hui, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka, presented a discussion on the history and heritage of Chinese tea culture.

In the cultural segment of the event, Taiba Tarannum Synthia, a student of Leading University, performed a dance, while Md. Noor Hasnat Emon, a postgraduate student of the Department of Political Studies, performed songs.

At the concluding stage of the event, a special exhibition featuring 20 artworks by artists from different parts of the country was organized. The artworks highlighted experiences of traveling to China and various aspects of Chinese culture. Students also enjoyed a Chinese tea exhibition and art display. The organizers stated that the exhibition would remain open to all throughout the day.

শাহজালাল বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের চাইনিজ কর্ণারের উদ্যোগে চাইনিজ বর্ষবরণ উদযাপিত হয়েছে। অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন শাহজালাল বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মাননীয় উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ড. এ. এম. সরওয়ারউদ্দিন চৌধুরী, বিশেষ অতিথি কোষাধ্যক্ষ অধ্যাপক ড. মো. ইসমাইল হোসেন এবং ভার্চুয়ালি গেস্ট অব অনার হিসেবে চাইনিজ দূতাবাসের কালচারাল কাউন্সিলর লি শাওপিং অংশ নেন। উক্ত অনুষ্ঠান সঞ্চালনা করেন চাইনিজ কর্ণারের সমন্বয়ক অধ্যাপক ড. মো. সাহাবুল হক। এসময় শাবিপ্রবি উপাচার্য বলেন, “চায়না বাংলাদেশের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বন্ধু।”

অনুষ্ঠান শেষে মাহে রমজান উপলক্ষে ইফতার আয়োজন করা হয়। এতে বিভিন্ন সেমিস্টারের শিক্ষার্থীরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন।
