Call for Submissions for the Wall Magazine

Dear Students,
We are pleased to announce that the Department of English will bring out its upcoming Wall Magazine on July 15, 2026. Interested students are invited to submit their poems and short stories for publication in the upcoming Wall Magazine and to showcase their creativity and literary talent through their submissions. Selected works will be featured in the Wall Magazine.

We are pleased to announce that the Department of English at Eastern University, in collaboration with the Eastern University English Club, will organize ๐‘น๐’†๐’”๐’†๐’‚๐’“๐’„๐’‰ ๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐‘ช๐’“๐’†๐’‚๐’•๐’Š๐’—๐’Š๐’•๐’š ๐‘ซ๐’‚๐’š, Summer 2026, scheduled to be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 12:00 PM in the department. The objective of the program is to promote research in English Language and Literature while encouraging creative engagement with the discipline. This event is exclusively for students of the Department of English, Eastern University. Interested participants may present their research papers or display their posters on any topic related to English language and literature, either individually or in groups. Group presentations may include up to four members.

Program Segments:
i. Research Paper Presentation (Slides/Poster)
- 8 minutes presentation + 2 minutes Q&A
- Slide/Poster must include: Title, Introduction, Methodology, Findings, Discussion, and Conclusion

ii. Creative Poster Exhibition
- Non-research creative posters based on English Language and Literature

The Department of English is pleased to welcome Mr. Sayed Salahuddin Ahmed, who joined Eastern University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of English on 6 June 2026.

Mr. Sayed Salahuddin Ahmed's professional experience spans three areasโ€”teaching, editing, and social work. He has taught at several universities in Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, and the United States for over twenty years. He completed his BA (Honours) and MA in English from Jahangirnagar University. He also earned a Diploma in TESOL from UNI-Prep, USA, and a Certificate in TESOL from Arizona State University. Sayed has taught English language and literature at BRAC University, BUBT, Stamford University, and Eastern University. He also served as a faculty member in the Department of English at King Khalid University in Saudi Arabia. His areas of interest include Academic Writing, Creative Writing, Business English, American Literature, Drama, Curriculum Studies, Error Analysis, TESOL, and TEFL. He has published 13 research articles and two books: Layout of a Sustainable EFL Department and Gum Rohosso (a Bangla crime thriller).

Mr. Sayed received the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Scholarship in 2008 and taught at the University of Georgia, USA. As an adjunct faculty member, he taught at the University of Dhaka, UIU, Southeast University, and Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology.

Mr. Sayed read English news for Bangladesh Betar for several years. He also worked as an Editorial Assistant at The Independent and as a Sub-Editor at The Business Standard. In addition, he has published more than forty articles in Bangla and English newspapers.

Mr. Sayed is an avid social worker. He founded Special Child Care, an online platform for people with physical, mental, and neurological disabilities, as well as their parents and professionals. He organizes and hosts webinars on various disability-related issues and also arranges training programs for parents. The platform provides necessary information and support to the community free of charge.

Mr. Sayed has a strong track record of involvement in co-curricular and extracurricular activities. He served as the General Secretary of the Jahangirnagar University Debating Society (JUDS) and won Best Speaker awards at the 4th Inter-University Debate Competition and the Democracywatch Debate Finals. He also served as the General Secretary of the English Association at Jahangirnagar University. Moreover, he moderated debating clubs at several universities. As a teacher, Sayed believes in cultivating students' individual talents and helping them develop skills and confidence.

The Department of English looks forward to the knowledge, skills, and passion he will bring to both educators and learners within our academic community.

The Department of English at Eastern University hosted English Day โ€“ 2026 on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, with great enthusiasm and festivity. The event was organized under the coordination of Ms. Kazi Tahmina, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Eastern University. The celebrations were held on the premises of the Department of English and at Rezakul Haider Hall of the university.

The programme commenced with a welcome address delivered by Mr. Md. Rofiussan, Head of the Department of English. This was followed by remarks from Dr. Shafia Akhter, Dean of the School of Arts. The chief guest of the occasion was Professor Dr. Farid Ahmmad Sobhani, Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University who praised the studentsโ€™ dedication, creativity, and active participation, while commending the Department for organizing such a splendid and meaningful celebration. Among the distinguished attendees were Dr. Abul Basher Khan, Registrar, and Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer of Eastern University.

The day-long program blended stall exhibitions, competitions, and cultural performances, creating a vibrant atmosphere of creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Students demonstrated their entrepreneurial spirit through an array of stalls featuring homemade delicacies, traditional attire, handicrafts, jewellery, and artistically crafted stationery items. Adding further dynamism to the event, the festival hosted several engaging competitions, including a vocabulary contest, tongue twister challenge, instant quiz, poetry recitation and set speech competition.

The cultural segment enlivened the celebration with rhythm, expression, and artistic vibrancy. Performers captivated the audience through songs, poetry recitations, dance performances, and character parades. One of the major highlights of the programme was the dramatic performances based on Macbeth and Hamlet. The performances enthralled the audience through spirited acting, compelling dialogue delivery, and profound thematic representation, epitomizing the studentsโ€™ collective artistic excellence and creativity.

English Day โ€“ 2026 was not merely a festive occasion; rather, it stood as a vivid manifestation of unity, cultural enrichment, creativity, and academic spirit that represented the Department of English at Eastern University.

We are pleased to announce that the Department of English at Eastern University is organizing โ€œEnglish Dayโ€, exclusively for its students, on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. To mark this occasion, the Department will arrange a fair, along with a series of cultural competitions and fun activities.

Fair Details
Stall Allocation:
โ†’ A total of ten stalls will be allocated.
Items for Sale or Display:
โ†’ Homemade food items (e.g., pitha, snacks, sweetmeats, lunch items, beverages, etc.)
โ†’ Dresses designed by students, handicrafts, handmade decorative items, paintings or sketches, bookmarks, and creatively designed diaries or notebooks, etc. (Items may be either for sale or for display.)
